Subject: Bass Tube IP: Logged
Message: has anyone thought about, or done, installing a bass tube under the center seat of the split bench seat of a 1998 Dakota sport RC. If so how did you do it and how does it sound.
I want to do it but dont want to lose the arm rest.

Message: You would be better off going with a smaller 8 sub, get rid of the tube idea they suck.....
Go with a small box behind the passengers seat. You will lose some leg room over there but the sound will be better!

Message: cool
do you know if those 8" boxes they make for under the seats would fit in a Dakota?

Message: Yes a single truck box will work fine for a Dakota. I have a friend with a 12 behind the seat of his Dakota. Most are slopped or are angled for hatchbacks, so the seat will still fit tight against the box.......

Message: I have 2 10" Memphis DVC's in seprate boxes behind the seats of my '97 RC. As long as the boxes aren't too tall you're fine. The amp is mounted behind the center console arm rest. Sounds awesome!!!

Message: No way any box is going to fit under your seat... maybe I read your post wrong though
Tubes do not suck.. I am more than pleased with my 8" Dual Voice coil bazooka. I have had several hi SPL systems before, and for the money and small amount of power needed to run the, Bazookas are an excellent choice for adding bass. Hell, I can crank mine if needed, but I don't anymore.. wanna know why? Cause my ear rings all the time due to loud systems when I was younger... =]
I have the 8" Bazooka running on a 5 channel kenwood, with the 5th channel being a sub channel that runs about 175 watts at 2ohms (running into both voice coils)
My tube is behind the passenger seat and I lost no leg room. Pics available on my site

Message: Sell it and get a Club Cab. I'm joking, I wanted a RC but it just wasn't practical for me. Unfornately I haven't seen a good option for the Regular Cabs as far as subs go. I'm with Zoner on the tubes. They were a real good idea and they give a lot of bass but the sound quality sucks. At the same time, so do truck boxes. There just is not enough area in them to produce deep bass. Also, the best shape for a sub box is a cube, not a trapeziod. The best idea I have seen yet is Chucks Intense '99. He placed a small box above his console between the seats. Although, he has a custom console. Between the truck box and the tube, I would go with the truck box and pack it with poly-fill. The poly-fill will give the illusion of a larger box therefor you will get deeper bass. I think you will be much happier with a truck box than with a tube.

Message: I have 2 - 12" JL Audio W1's in my 98 RC Sport and I have no problems with leg room at all. I would definitely recommend doing some kind of setup close to that vs. getting a bass tube! Mine sounds so bad ass and it is crystal clean. Check out picks of the boxes @ http://lee.lineardatasys.com/98SPRTV6/
