I listened to what Darkfury said and went to his website http://www.chimptopia.com/pimptopia/grille.html
Followed the directions... went to Lowes and bought a steel cable and 5 gutter guards (cost a total of 9 bucks).... anyway, 4 hours later.... it's all done and I love the way it looks. I actually had a crowd watching me do it in the parking lot (I live in a barracks, like a dorm I suppose). Many stuck around for the whole 4 hours just to see what it would look like when it was done... I'm really impressed. I have no pics of it because I lack a digi camera, but Darkfury does at his website above. Already got a lot of compliments on it... I think it looks great

Okay, I'm driving myself insane trying to find material similar to DakFury's SS grill. We don't have Lowe's here in Wisconsin and the only thing I can find is some really cheesy looking mesh. Can anyone help a guy out?

write down the part number that should show on the pic of the mesh that Darkfury has... and they should be able to order it... it is made by Gutter World... search the web for that manufacturer and see if they sell it themselves... *shrug*

Thanks for visitin' the site and congrats on the grille.
For the money... they do look good don't they? (Basically you can buy yourself time... if you don't like it later you can get the "real deal" but for now, you've only got $20 invested.)
Personally, I like the "heavier feeling" I had in my pocket when I did that mod. LOL.

Nice tips. I used black grille. My 2001 was a
little different set up though. Everthing went
smoothly. Inexpensive and looks great!

I just installed my own $5 custom grill today. It looks great! I primed and painted the mesh gloss black. I'll be taking pictures of it tomorrow.

for all the questions, but it looks great, have
been waiting to see if somebody did it in black

All you need to relocate the hood release is $2 worth of material. I just went down to the Ace Hardware store and bought 12 inches of thin aircraft cable, 2 wire caps, clear vinyl tubing, 2 zip ties and a keyring loop. It works great. I'll be taking pictures today of how my truck looks with the black grill. You can always go to dakfury's site. He's got pictures already posted as to what you need and how to do it.

LOL, I went to Canadian tire for the gutter
guard (keeps leaves out of eavesdrought).
They only had black. Oh well, truck is black
anyways. Part number? You dont need no
stinkin part number! Search buddy!
As for the hood latch you will have to check my
pics in a few days.
I used a brake cable for a bicycle.
1- cut the large end of the cable off.
2 - pull out the cable.
3 - cut the sleeving to length
4- drill a hole in the latch release just large
enough for the wire to feed through, the
thing at the end will hold it in place. Looks
good.
5 - feed the cable through the latch hole,
through the sleeve and mount the sleeve on
the grill post (center post yo!)
6- have a beer, your doin great
7- use an aluminum wire crimp to make a
loop on thecable end.
8 - check your length and crimp it.
9 - with this set up you will not need any key
rings, which was my fear would rattle.
Again check the pics , ill shoot em right now.
give em 10 min or so.

Here are some pics of what I did to make my grille. I primed and then painted the mesh gloss black. The pictures didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I've taken some new ones and I hope to get those posted soon. I case you're curious...

just finished the install...2001 was a little
tricky, I had to cut oout the stock horizontal
bars leaving some extra "meat" on the back
side of the grill, to put screws in.
Looks good, will prob put pics up on my site:
