Subject: tire help! IP: Logged
Message: I recently finished putting the PA 3 inch body lift on my dak. Now it's time to find some tires, right now I have the 235/75/15 stocks and a 3.55 gear ratio. I am looking at the BFGoodrich ATKO tires or BFG mud terrain, 33's. I was wondering how much the bigger tires affected your driving, gas milage and performance?
also what did you guys use to fill the wheel well gaps, the gap guards they sell look cheap!

Message: You'll notice a big difference in responsiveness and a small difference in gas mileage. I started with 3.55's and 31 inch tires from the factory and usually got 17-18 on the highway. Switched to 32 inch BFG MT KM's after the lift, and my mileage dropped slightly...no more 18 mpg, but hung around 17. The truck also felt kinda sluggish off the line, and hills at freeway speed caused more downshifting than I liked. So I switched to 3.92 gears. Mileage dropped to 16.5 on the freeway, but the transmission hunting was dramatically reduced and the truck feels really responsive now.
Your speedometer will also read low by about 11-12%. That can be reduced to 5-6% by a simple reprogramming at the dealer...they will reprogram for stock tire sizes only, so get them to reprogram it for 31's. Or you can get an aftermarket speedo correction thingy...I think KRC sells them but I don't know how they work or how much they cost.
