 Subject: Finished Lift... 33's on 2wd!

Well... I have a lot of info for you 2wd guys (and gals) who want to run 33's! As we all know, if you want to run 33 inch tires on our 2wd's, are only option (for now) is a 3" body lift AND a 3" suspension lift. So you ask... can that those two things alone fit 33's?... YES!!!
I just finished the Fabtech lift today and its AWESOME!! At first I thought I would have to run coil spacers WITH the Fabtech lift... NO WAY will it fit! Well, I shouldn't say no way, BUT it will really mess things up and mostly, you don't need them. Some of you may know that I wanted to use coil spacers and after I installed the lift (myself) I realized that was NOT going to work, nor was I gonna try. Trust me! If you don't believe me then do it and get terrible suspension. Some people have tried it and thats great, but I just didn't like what I saw.
Anyway, after the lift I put on 33x12 BFG Muds on a 15x10 rim. Looked good but they WILL rub. No biggie, I just did some trimming and WAH-LAH... no rubbing! Thats all there is!! Now I DO hav some rubbing in reverse still, but I just need to cut some more fender. It doesn't look bad, just keep it as clean looking as possible.

The pictures are BEFORE the lift but the look is the same. I'll try and answer any questions I can. I know how hard it is to decide on major projects like this and their results so I want to give back to you what others have given to me on this board!!

Will do Hawkeye! They should be up tomorrow, I hope. I was able to keep the fender flares on so I really want people so see it! I had't seen any before mine, but they will work. I also didn't realize how high you guys were riding with your 33's... man, these trucks ROCK!!

ok, tons of questions:
1. does it feel a lot slower with the bigger tires?
2. did you keep your fender flares?
3. how much triming did you have to do?
4. how hard was the fabtech lift to install? time?
5. how long did the body lift take to install? hard?

In order:
1)No, with 3.92 gears it actually feels smoother throughout the powerband (just beat a Celica today)!
2)Yes - flares are still on and work great
3)On the flares, not much. I cut about 1/2" off the rear wheel well and 3/4" off the bumper. I sanded everything down and it looks fine. I still need to make it look "finished" but the tires don't rub anymore. How much you cut depends on the tires you choose.
4)About a day for the Fabtech w/2 people. The first side was hard trying to figure it all out, the other side was cake after that. You need a coil compressor to do the job. There are some trouble spots if you don't have the right tools or skills, but I was able to do it with standard equipment.
5) The body lift took more time (did it myself) which took a FULL weekend. What took the most time for me was the shifter (I have a 5spd). It had to be fabricated to fit. The rest was very easy and straight foward.

I know 31's with no problems. 32's MIGHT need very little trimming. I know the 4x4's can fit 32's stock, and a 2wd w/3" of lift is the same height so...

backspacing on stock 16" rims. I cant afford
new ones now but if I trim can i get rid of
rubbing? Thanks

I got a 2WD with the Fabtech kit and 32's on it, and I just had to cut the back part of the liner off for it not to rub.

If you're talking about the Fabtech lift then you WILL need new rims with a different off-set. The stock wheels will rub on the new a-arm's. If you're just talking about a body lift then stock rims are fine!

I am running a CST 3" lift on the stock wheels... I am running a set of billet aluminum spacers that push the wheels out just enough to clear the upper control arm. It lets me retain the stock wheels and I haven't had any problems in over 50,000 miles of on and off-road driving. The spacers aren't cheap but they are a whole heckuva lot cheaper than a set of new wheels.
