Message: About as hard as it is to turn the bolts. You will only get about 1.5" of lift by doing that.

Message: How many turn of the torsion bar bolts does it take to lift a Dak 1".
I forgot to measure before I cranked them. Turned each one equal amounts. I got 3.5 turns.

Message: This is a dumb question, but where is the torsion bar located and which bolts do you turn?
I finished my 3 inch body lift and my truck is still lacking hight in the front.

Message: And I have another question about adjusting the torsion bars. I suggested to a friend that I may want to adjust my torsions to get a little more height and he did not recommend it, especially if I was planning on off roading. He said that a number of things could go wrong.
So my question is, what, if any, problems would or could occur from adjusting the torsion bars up?? Has anyone encountered any problems from doing this??

Message: Not trying to be a DICK. Just trying to be HELPFUL. Someone new to the site may not realize the wealth of info and tips that are on this site. A little time searching may not only answer your question but it may provide some tips that save you both time and money. A lot of the guys and gals that have been here a long time, have done most of these mods and are ALWAYS willing to help. Personally I've written out a long procedure to do this about 6 times and, at my typing speed, it probably takes me longer to type it than it would for someone to search for it. Usually looking over the posts for the last couple weeks will find what you're looking for and doesn't take very long. Don't be so quick to flame someone, they may hold that little nugget of info you really need in the future. Jim

Message: You may:
Mash/ bust the upper bumpstops (that piece of rubber preventing metal-to-metal contact of the bottom side of the upper control arm to frame when your suspension droops)
Put undo stress on the torsion bars themselves (have a buddy who actually broke one on a Nissan)
You Will:
Be wasting your money (About $127 a pair?)
Wasting your time (removing old keys/ installing new ones)
Look through the old posts (i.e.: torsion bar lift; torsion bar keys; adjusting T bars; etc.) on Raised/ Lifted, Suspension...every so often somebody is given the idea (usally from a Non-Dakota owner) about re-indexing keys. Your Dak should be able to be raised using the stock keys. It is the Chevys that can go higher with the re-indexed parts. 'Most' Dak owners have come in contact with the upper bumpstops (the limiting point) before running out of adjustment on the factory indexed keys.
Hope this helps.

Message: If you have an 03 or 04 4x4 dakota your not going have any choice but to do the torsion crank. They dont make a lift for it because they changed the brakes on the front to larger size. The only way you could do it is buy a lift for an 02 or before and change the brakes up front, this way you could do it but i wouldnt recommend it because your going with larger tires which have more rotating weight which is a little more difficult to stop or slow down. So Just go with a torsion crank and a body lift if you want. Or do what Im doing and find a set of Dana 44/Dana 60 axles to throw underneath so you can run 37"s :)
