Message: Body lift -
Advantages
- No change to suspension
- Low Cost
- Room for larger tires
Dis-Advantages
- No Extra travel in your suspension (Doesn't matter on IFS anyway because you won't get any extra)
- You can see the frame (Not to bad w/ the Dakota. REALLY bad on S-10's)
Suspension Lift
Advantage
- Extra travel
- Room for larger tires
- Frame doesn't show
Dis-Advantages
- High Cost
- Suspension get stiffer (usually)
I'm sure there are more but those are the main ones as far as I'm conserned..
Keep in mind right now there are no reputable Suspension lifts for the 2000+ Dakotas.

Message: Well i bet you guys knew i'd love to jump on this one......Suspension all the way, if its just a street truck....do both, no reason not to get 5.5-6" more lift right? but anyway, I recommend suspension, but all of this is personal opinion, Knobby put it very well with no bias (appluad) just in case, you want suspension i also have my 3" fabtech arms and coils as well as bilstiens all around going for sale at 450.00, all of the parts have only 3000 miles on them and are good as new. I only have one thing to add to Knobby's suspension Con.....the reason that the suspension gets stiffer (from an off road perspective) is that a performance off road suspension system should bounce once and return to ride height. when my dak was stock and i hit a bumpy strech, the front end bounced like it was on switches, now it has this really cool feeling of the suspension dropping, then the truck, letting me know that it wants to be all wheels to the ground like i want it to be. a lot of rambling....but my $.02
One Eyed Fox The Baja Dak Have you jumped a dak..........lately?

Message: Especially if you have a 2wd, just get both. I went with the body lift first, because I'm a cheap bastard, but I do plan on getting my suspension lift done in the next few months. The body lift is only about $175, versus suspension $750-800, or $450 buying it from Dan! I couldnt wait for my tires either, so I got them before the suspension lift. Hehe.
Run your fingers over my truck, and I'll run over your fingers with my truck!

Message: Just to rebound the statement about Stiffness.. Most people don't ride off road much so they don't care to have stiff suspension.
You could get the best of both worlds by doing blocks in the rear (I wouldn't suggest if your over 2" of lift although 3" is usually fine)and getting something like RS9000 shocks.

Message: for 2WD. Our options suck so bad you have to do both just to get a max of 6". I would rather have the suspension if I had money coming out of my ears. Body lift is far more cost effective though.
