Subject: Spare tire relocation for body lift
IP: Logged

Message:
I did a PA 3" body lift on a 02 2wd CC 6 months ago and couldn't figure out how to remount the spare tire crank. I think it was be because they didn't give me the part in my kit. I still have a bunch of left over junk but none of it looks like it will work. What do they give you and what does it look like? The instructions did not have pictures of the part? Help me out because I have no spare right now. Will a 32" spare tire fit or do I to keep the stock one? Does anyone have their spare mounted in the bed? Thanks.

There is no part included in the kit for relocating the spare tire crank. You need to remove the plastic grommet that the spare tire crank originally went through and you'll need to drill new holes, one for where the crank goes through under bed and another behind license plate to get at the crank end with handle to lower spare. The directions are really fairly clear on this part if you read them a few times and look at the lousy black and white pictures, lol.

A 32" spare will not fit without notching the bed crossmember a little, the 31" rests tightly against the crossmember so if you did crank it up and shifted it around to fit, it would probably end up clunking since it wouldn't rest flush against the base.

You can buy an in-bed spare tire mount from FabTech, both flat against bed(fit under tonneau) and angled for appearance. I don't know if anyone on here is used one, not that I have heard.

Good-Luck.

Actually, there is one little piece included for the crank rod. Its a small clip with rubber onthe inside. You have to drill a small hole through one of the cross members (hard to explainon here) and bolt it on (on top). The crank rod runs through it to keep it from vibrating and making a racket. The only other hole to drill is through the plastic by the liscense plate as 2THEXTRM said. At least thats all I had to do to mine and all that was in the instructions.

I got jipped, no extra part in my kit. I had to make the factory o-ring work using a utility knife to modify it a little bit. Oh well, does the trick. Thanks for clearing that up Hawkeye and I hope that you have that part in your kit Chris.

we'll see. My kit was missing several little things. Like they didn't give me the bolt for tightening the the steering extension.

I found the clip. I also just realized I didn't use the over load metal spacers. Were those metal spacers necesary?

I welded the spacers onto my frame because I use my truck as a truck. If you don't load the hell out of you box it should be alright. The spacers keep the bed from drooping in the center from excessive weight.
