Subject: Skid plates for Tuff Country lift!!

I was browsing through Tuff Country's website to get their customer service e-mail. I'm contacting them about the gear oil burping out my vent tube. They reconfigured the site since the last time I was there so I decided to check things out. They seem to have a front skid plate that goes with our lift now!!! I'm going to ask for more details in my e-mail. Here's the link:

The problem is the vent tube is too short. I got a breather tank from Summit, mounted it next to the radiator, got rid of that stupid little plastic cap and ran the vent tube into the tank. Haven't had a problem since. Also, I took the cheesy plastic fitting out of the axle since it popped out on me once and blew axle fluid all over everything. When I was swapping the front gears, I tapped the hole to 1/8" NPT and screwed in a barbed fitting. Haven't had that problem again either.

I checked on the TC skid plate, it's not the prerunner type (angled down), it's just a flat plate under the diff but it doesn't interfere with the sway bar. The price - $139. I'm thinking I could fab something up for a little less coin.

It doesn't look like that from the pic...it looks like its the angled prerunner piece by the location of the bolt on fins...where'd you get the info?

I talked to shane from customer service at Tuff country. You were right about the skid plate. However, he's going to see if its possible for them to fabricate a prerunner type skid plate for us Dakota people...I'm supposed to e-mail him back in 2 weeks to check up on it.

I got a response back...I had to e-mail him back because I didn't understand it...he said something about them doing the first article on the 28th. I also asked him about the possibility of ladder bars, multiple shocks, and steering stabilizers while I was at it. He usually hits me back the next day so I'll probably have news tomorrow.

I used SUM-G1504. I swapped the drain fitting to the top so that I could keep it closed and just had the other fitting going in the bottom with the breather hose connected to it. Never had a problem since.
