Subject: 92 dakota lift? IP: Logged
Message: I was wondering if anyone has lifted a Dakota using the Tuff Country lift? I want to use that lift to raise my truck , but tuff Country told me that the suspension were totally different. I looked at some 97 dakotas and the frame looks exactly the same. The only difference I can see is that the sway bar is in the front and the 97 uses different inner tie rods. Also the front differential is aluminum for the 97, but the mounting points all look the same. Can anyone tell me if the frames are the same for the 92 and the 97 dakotas. I really want tolift it higher. I have a 3" body lift with 31's. I know tha tI will have to make drop bracket for the sway bar. I will probably have to buy new inner tie rods. I just want to know if the the the lift will fit. Thanks

Message: TrailMaster has a 4” IFS Suspension for ’91-’96 Dakotas, it required replacing the stock rims with aftermarket rims with more offset. I had installed a modified version of this kit on my ’88. I had researched the Tough Country kit as well and the dealer is correct, the 97+ suspensions are different enough that it won’t work. The control arms, though similar, have slightly different dimensions and are not interchangeable. Click on the Image on my Dakota below to see my page about when I installed the Trailmaster kit on my ’88 Dakota. I also scanned in the directions into a .PDF file for readers to download.

Message: Walt thanks for the information. I was wondering if 8" rims would be alright for this lift. Trailmaster said that there has to be a certain amount of back spacing? I have 589 rims. Also I live in Hawaii were the police is very strict about tires sticking out. I have fender flares the same size as yours. do they have enough coverage to cover you front tires? Hopefully I can purchase a lift , but I think the price is too high for that lift. Do you know of any deals going on?

Message: Excellant job on the lift. Looks like a lot of sweat went into the job, it shows in a sweet looking truck. I own a 95 dodge dakota and am thinking of putting on a lift, sounds like the trailmaster is the way to go. Do you know if it matters if the truck is an extracab as mine is and if being an automatic also makes a difference. if you could give me any pointers it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 95 dakota
