Subject: 2001 Quad 3" lift - should I? IP: Logged
Message: Will the ride be rough after installation?
Are the factory shocks re-usable, or do I need longer shocks?
What is the largest tire size that will fit after installation?
Thanx in advance.

Message: If you are talking about a body lift , the answers would be...
No , the ride quality will not change because you are just spacing the body away from the frame. You aren`t changing the susp. at all.
And that helps answer the 2nd question , you don`t need longer shocks...again because you`re not changing the susp.
As for what size tire you can use after a 3in lift...33s will fit regardless of wheel size. Actually the metric version of them are 305-70/16. You may have to do some minor trimming up front..some people had to others didn`t.

Message: I just installed a 3"body lift yesterday. It took myself and a friend ALL day. I then tried to mount 32X11.50X15 tires on 15X8 rims with a 3-3/4 back-spacing. I will need minor trim work on the plastic bumper extension/airdam and considerable cutting on the back of the front fenderwell. I'm checking to find a deeper backspacing and if that doesn't pan out will just put 31's on the previously mentioned rims.
Good Luck.

Message: I did get different rims with a 4 1/2" backspacing and the 32" tires fit and look great. I had to heat up the rear of the front fenderwell with a torch and push it back while it was pliable.
Stock Dakota rims have a backspacing of 5 1/4" I think.
Good luck. I'm having the front windows tinted next week and then I'll post a picture.
