Subject: fog lights with high beams on IP: Logged
Message: I just performed my first addition to my truck and I was just going to let every one know how to do it if they were curious. To make your fog lights work with your high beams on all you have to do is add one fuseable link into fuse box. If you open your hood and open the box behind the battery you will see relays and fuses. Take the relay out that is labeled fog lights. If you look on the bottom of the relay it should look like this.
__

| | |
The top is 5, the one parallel to it is 3. Connect 5 and 3 with the fuseable link. Do not connect the prongs, but connect their slots.
If you need any help with this project just post here and I'll answer your question, but I hope my directions are good enough.

Message: I got my fogs on with the high beams putting in a jumper by the switch in the dash. What I really want to do now is figure out how to get the low beams to stay on with the highs. I tried one of those relays from Summit, but they don't work with our trucks (we complete the circuit on the ground side) so I gave it to a friend with a Ford. It worked for him and also kept his fogs on for him. Now if anyone has any suggestions for low beams with the high, I'd love to hear them.

Message: Wouldn't/couldn't there be some kind of an issue with too much current flowing through the wiring and possibly melting something? I always wondered about that when I drove holding my high's on along with my low beams.

Message: That is a very good point that you bring up. I havent had a chance to look at the wiring, but i think I will have an answer by the end of the weekend.

Message: if you go to like o'rileys or auto zone in the electrical section there are different gauge wires. there is also a wire called fuseable link. hopefully the people there no what it is, but im not saying they will. i have real issues with the knowledge provided by the people at auto stores. any more questions let me know.

Message: The wire that I have is a grey wrapped wire that is just a wire. I stripped both ends and stuffed just the stripped part down in the sockets next to the relay prongs and stripped the wire enough so that it was just wire until it was outside of the relay. I then just took the excess wire and wrapped it up in the fuse box. If this didnt help just write a specific question. By the way do you have daytime running lights?

Message: ok i have no daytime running lights... i bought the chrysler fuseable link... i opened the hood to find the fuse block that said fog lamp relay... i removed the block(looked like an electrical plug with 5 prongs) and it looked like this
__ <----------------------|
__ <---------------------|
| | |
so i did as you said and attached these with the fuseable link but as soon as the two were connected the fog lamps remained on and would not shut off even after the block was put back in... and that is exactly what i did

Message: it dosnt work because 5 and 3 are both constant power. you need to connect 3 and 1 together.

1 comes on when fog lights are turned on by the botton.
