Subject: Tire Q's for Resqready! IP: Logged
Message: I guess this is a question for anybody in the know and Resqready too. I have a 2000 Quad cab, and since nobody has a suspension lift right now, I still want some wheels and tires for a little better look and I'm not really sure about what I can get in the fenderwell. I was thinking of a 15x8 or 15x10 wheel, probably Eagle 589 with a 32x12.5x15 maybe? I really dont want to have to trim or anything, Just something that maybe I can squeeze in but I'm not really sure if any will fit without some kind of cranking of the torsion bars or something. The truck came factory with 31's so I was hoping maybe I could get 32's in possibly without any problems. Also if I do get 32's, How much of a diff would that make in the speedo and everything? I was hoping maybe not much but I would invest in the superlift calibration if it would. I really liked the look of the DAkarta and Want a look something similar to that. Are the wheels 15x10 or 15x8? Any kind of suggestions I would greatly appreciate, I've tried researching on the board and got some pretty good ideas, but just let me know what you think, Anybody is welcome to post, Thanks alot!

Message: DJ's is running 32's and gets rubbing from time to time due to the backspacing on the custom rims.
I have managed the 33's on stock. We both have the Hanson bumpers. I even bought the 33's mt from DJ (RESQready) since he did not want to bother with them. If you stay with stock back spacing you can run 33's. Anything else will rub somewhere in the turn's and at very small turns at that. The only way to get 32's ot 33's is to trim. If you want the 589's then you will still have to trim and you will still get the occasional rub.
I finally went out with my new 285x75x16 bfg at's and I was the only one not to rub. DJ and John both run 32's and they get some rubbing.
Any tire bigger than 31" will through off your speedometer and trip mileage.
The 2" larger tires make a big difference in appearance and height. It is amazing at what an inch will do.

Message: Well said.
On 15x8 stock wheels, 32x11.5 tires will fit with very minor rubbing at the bumper facia. If you go with an aftermarket wheel that has less backspacing, such as a 589 (3.25" backspacing I think) you will get a little more rubbing at the rear of the wheel wells. Nothing that can't be fixed with a little trimming and a torsion bar crank. Just remember that less backspacing and wider rims "push" the wheels farther out from the vehicle -- increasing the chance of rubbing.
With out calibrating, my 32's caused a 5% +/- deviation in the speedometer. So when the spedo read 65, I was really going about 68 or 69.
The Dakarta had 15x8 Alcoa Challenger wheels (now I have 'em) with 33x12.5 General Grabbers (now ForexFour has 'em). When I talked with the designers of the Dakarta they said that 33's fit with only a torsion bar adjustment -- if you didn't take it off road! Check out ForexFour's website for more pics. With a new bumper, some creative trimming, stock wheels, and a T-bar crank, he made 33" MT's and AT's fit no problem -- on-road AND off.

Message: You might consider 16" rims and the BFG 275/70R16 All Terrains. I am running them on a 2000 4X4 with stock suspension with no rubbing. 5.5" backspacing on my rims.
