Subject: suspension lift & tire size IP: Logged
Message: I am looking at a 3" Rancho suspension lift for my 98 Dakota 4x4. What is the largest size tire with aftermarket rims that can be installed with as little work done to the fenders? Is there anything else that needs to be purchased for the least amount of wear on the drivetrane? What type of tires would you recommend for adverage wear ( note that most driving will be done on pavement due to only one mode of transportation).
Thanx,
Barker

Message: Ok Baker,
So with NO trimming you could probably go as high as 32X11.50 all-terrains. If your willing to do a little trimming (shouldn't be that bad) you can go with 33X12.50 without headaches. As far as tires go, all-terrains last longer than mud tires, so if you want road tires, get BF Goodrich All-Terrains. If you want muds, BF Goodrich Mud Terrain tires are really nice. For a comfortable medium, the Pro-Comp X-Terrains look pretty nice.
In my oppinion (which isn't to say i'm right) i'd go with 33X12.50 (biggers better) and then decide which tire based on what you are looking for. Any of those three would do well.

Message: You can go with 33's if you crank the torsion bars to level the truck. You can see pics of BlueTwister's truck with the rancho lift and 33's on the Dakota cruise in thread on the general board.

Message: I asked Jason (BlueTwister) last weekend about the ride of his truck after the lift and he said it actually was a little better than stock.
