Subject: body lift on 4.7 5-speed...again! IP: Logged
Message: I know this subject is getting VERY old, but my searches on the archives didn't tell me exactly everything I needed. I just ordered the PA body lift for my 2001 4.7 4x4 and I have a few questions.
1.Do I need a new radiator hose, and if so what part number?
2.I have the factory hitch receiver, does this stay put when lifting, or does the kit come with hardware and instructions to relocate?
3.Has anybody figured out the best way to address the 5-speed shifter problem? What do the instructions say to do?
4.Has anyone posted the instructions anywhere on this site or another?
Thanks ahead of time guys! I ordered the lift a couple of days ago, but now I'm getting a little worried it's gonna a b*tch to install. I didn't realize the 4.7 manuals were so hard to do!

1-you can use the cut and splice method that is with the kit or just go to an auto parts store and buy a new one. universal adapter
2-the hitch will stay in place it needs to stay bolted to the frame. doesnt look to bad just about 3 inches below the bumper instead of right below it. looks kinda like a factory chevy hitch.
3-the instructions say to heat it up and bend it to fit. but it wont look to great and it will be lower. if you want you can make an extention for it but it will lengthen the shifts a little but also raise the handle to where it was before the lift (what i did first). the handle of the shifter just screwes onto the shifter right below the boot. just remove the boot and you will see what im talking about. you can make an extention using 14mm screw and some type of adapter i got mine sitting in my shop because i just put in the hurst shifter in. so if you want some pics of my old shifter e-mail me. A hurst shifter is the way to go much better shifts and shorter shifts no longer will hit your dash after the body liftbut you need modify it to fit also easy i used some nuts from home depot i think i used 3/8inch but not sure just rounded the sides so they fit in the factory rubber seal that you will need to reuse. and other than that shifter issue the lift is real easy took about a day taking your time just get a buddy to help. just make sure the cab and bed line up before you torque everything down mine is off slighty o well. hope this helps

Message: 1. I used the extension pipe that came with the kit.
2. I don't have the hitch, so I didn't have to deal with it.
3. The instructions I got didn't say anything about the 5spd. I heated it up and bent it without success, bent it back to the original shape and made a "relocation bracket". Works just fine now.
4. no instructions posted that I could find. I have a slow scanner, or I'd post them myself.
Before you start, take the console out, if you have one. Also, you might even remove the gear shift just to be safe. I did my lift without doing this and the shifter was crammed into 1st or 3rd. Don't worry about the shifter for now, you can drive around without the console in for a couple weeks like I did till you can figure it out! :)

Message: I think Hawkeye gave the best general advice for doing the lift: Take your time and pay attention to the directions.
Have fun!
