Message: Hey. Sounds very cool what you did. (conversion to solid axle) I would like to talk about my 87 4x4 3.9L and what would be involved in converting myself.
We can chat here online, or you can call, or i can call you. Let me know either way.
Thanks

Message: Hey guys. I have a 98 x-cab 5.2 auto 4x4. After hunting lift kits and pricing new gears and everything else, I think I may do a solid axle swap too. I read somewhere that in order to cut down production costs Dodge put many of the same parts from their 1/2 ton line under the dakota. Assuming that I didn't make that up this shouldn't be that difficult, right? Steering, brakes, and driveline is what I'm concerned with.
In theory, the brakes should just have to be plumbed in. The 1/2 tons use the same t-case, so driveline shouldn't be that bad either. Suspension does not worry me, but I have no clue how to fab up drop brackets and other steering parts in order to keep the geometry correct. Any suggestion from someone who has been there before would help. I ultimately would like about 10" of lift and probably 38's if the front end will hold up to them. I live in Texas and the junk yards are a plenty. Am I possibly being too optimistic?

Message: a company called "agm" or "agr" that makes a hydraulic assist system for solid axels.I believe its called the "Rock Ram" that works by running a set of hyd. lines from the power steering pump (may need upgrade) to a hyd. ram mountedd on the axle. You can also fabricate your own for less I would imagine. For more info refer to a copy of petersons 4 wheel & off-road or any other 4x mag, alot of the rock crawlers and larger rigs w/ big meats seem to be going in that direction. Plus it looks trick , too. Good Luck !
