Subject: Dakota Spindle Issue IP: Logged
Message: I see everyone asking about lifting their trucks and how nobody makes spindles yet i saw a post somewhere in here where some company was wiling to put the time and resources into it if a certain nmber of people would order them.
I would think that after seeing all the interest on this forum alone that this could justify the time and resources needed to provide a product that everyone wants so badly.
Think about all those Dakota owners out there who know nothing at all about this forum yet want to raise their own Dakota up and can't find any spindles or decent lift kits out there to do it with. It bet there are at least 100x more Dakota owners out there that know NOTHING about DodgeDakotas.com than there are who actually come in here and post.
Seems to me like if someone here has the time, the resounrces, the company that can do this that they would JUMP on the Dakota Spindle project and get the jump on the next guy who finally gives in and decides to give it a shot.
IF YOU MAKE THE SPINDLES......WE WILL BUY THEM!

Message: ive been trying to figure out of the spindles were made of cast aluminum if they would be strong enough(cast aluminum is pretty strong but i dont want to jump into it without the proper research into it) because the company i work for can have them casted and is more then willing to cast them up and sell them if there is an interest and i know there is a bit interest.. but of course i have to do the research on it to make sure they hold up then take the proper messurements and what not... so if any of you know where i can find more info and stuff go ahead and post it because if i find out it works ill have a set casted and i will throw it on my truck and test them out to make sure they work... but anyways i gota jet.. gona get to the theaters to see tripple x tonight.

Message: a spindle lift is here you replace the spindle (or as ive been trying to do just extend it but thats not workin too well) but one that drops lower... the spindle is the part that hold the wheel and breaks and its attacked to the lower controll arm and the upper A-arm... check out the fabtec lift for the dodge ram and youll see what i mean.

Message: I asked FABTECH a few weeks ago ablut spindles for a Dak. They said they had nothing in the works. Maybe a thread like this will help change their minds. I would buy them.

Message: What we need is a list of poeple willing to buy these spindles. Then contact a smaller company who might have the flexibility to work a special project like this into thier business plans. People like Fabtech and rancho have plans for thier business set way in advance of this actual date. It will be very hard to persuade someone like them to change their plans to make a Dak spindle. Smaller co. on the other hand can change thier directions quicker and easier. Justa thought.
Joe E.
I have a 1990 Dak 2wd. I am thinking about REcontacting a few custom fab places about custom making a set of 3in spindles for my truck. Doesnt look like I will ever get them unless I go this route.

Message: I agree joe , but if we get a thread going , and list an x amount of people that want it , I think somebody like fabtech will take the risk in making them ..........Plus they have more resources to make them, than a smaller co ......

Message: Wow, now thats the interest it will take to get one of these companies to get off their milling machines and make us spindles.
I think we should target 1 company in particular and everyone should email them requests for Dakota spindles.
I am not saying that we need to SPAM the hell out of them but rather send formal requests for them to look into the possible manufacturing of a Dakota specific spindle....2" and 3".

BUt I do think a few formal letters will get things moving.
About the Ram spindles... Do you think if you got a set of Ram upper/lower A amrs, hangers, and any break/etc accessories, you probably could make them work. Whatya think?

Message: Well im sure you can make them work but i think the spindle might have more space between the lower controll arm and the upper a-arm... so without some fab work i dont think it will bit... but i could be totally wrong here... i have a neighbor who drives a ram from time to time and i think its a 2wd so when i see it and him outside im gona ask him if i can crawl under it and take some measurements to see if they would just bolt in... who knows we could be lucky.. but i really doubt it.. but you never know if you dont try right?

Message: hey, isn't it possible to put a spacer between the upper ball joint and the upper A-arm? If you already have a 3" fabtech kit, than put a 2" Daystar spacer for the springs, then make a spacer for the upper A-arm to ball joint attachment. It would give 5 inches instead of three. I don't think this would work for a stock a-arm but it's doing the same thing a spindle would do. I don't think it would take much to make a spacer. Any ideas? Greg

Message: No a spindle does not do the same thing as a coil spacer. All a spindle does is change the placement they are not extended if they were you would need to get coils with them

Message: David, what years Dak are you speaking of? I have a 1990 And have been kicking this dead horse spindle issue for 2 years now. Id love to get a pair. I am soon gonna just have a fab place custom make em. Probably cost over $1000. but itd be worth it to me.
I found out that spindles are made of cast steel. They are refined down to the smooth metal we all see in the picts, but they start cast!
Have a good one.

Message: Li'l Stomper, biggest reason I want spindles is to take the forward rake out of my truck. I want to level it out.
I already added 31x10.50x15's and occasionally nail the drivers fender when hitting a nasty RR crossing or the pothole from hell and spindles should cure this problem.
I ran what I wanted to do by a mechanic friend and his first response was to see about spindles before altering the suspension other ways or going to a body lift, he felt this would be the easiest for what little bit of lift I wanted in the one area.
AIM Industries (www.AIMIND.com) actually advertised Dak Spindles for a while but then after they redesigned their webpage, the Daks were gone leaving only Ram spindles.
