Subject: BFG Mud T/A ... 33x12.50 IP: Logged
Message: Well, I had my brand new 33x12.50 BFG Mud T/A's installed this morning. I like them a HELLUVA lot better than the Mickeys.
I was, however, disappointed and a little surprised with the fitment. With my 3.75" backspaced wheels I have some pretty good rubbing on the inside bottom corner of the bumper fascia (which I can remedy with some trimming) but what really sucks is they also rub on the bottom of my front mudflaps. Guess I'm gonna have to lose the flaps. So much for a semi-clean black truck, eh?
Ah well, I guess a few extra washes won't kill me. The tires are much quieter on the road and the radials like the pavement much better. I just read so many positive posts regarding 33" tires and 3" body lift that I figured I'd have fared better. Time to break out the rotozip.

Message: If you haven't already, crank your torsion bars up an inch. It may stop the rubbing on the fascia.

Message: I tweaked my bars back when I had the Mickeys. They do have quite a bit of adjustment yet but it's got that nice level look to it as it sits. I think I can remedy most of the bumper rub by loosening the mounts and tweaking the bumper itself up a bit. Should clear up most of it. I'd just gotten really attached to my molded mudflaps ... lol .... hate to see them go!

Message: Know what you mean Blizzard, I had to lose my factory molded mudflaps from some serious catching on the front ones too. I tried the non-molded factory mud flaps, they have even less clearance and I also tried some aftermarket flat mud flaps with no luck, maybe if they could be glued on without the screw heads sticking out it might work:) I have decided that my truck actually looks better without the mud flaps but keeping it clean is a little more work and I hear the occasional stray rock ejecting from the knobby tires into the rockers, oucchhh!!!! Extra touch-up paint to prevent rust is a must now. I'll have to check out your new pics with BFG's on.

Thanks Aaron!
I'm more than a little curious how the rest of you with 3" body lift and 33" BFG tires made out. I'm gonna have to chop a TON off my front fascia to eliminate the rubbing. And there's not much clearance in the back either. Any wheelin' with them and I'm sure I'll be tearin' stuff up. Dunno what I'm gonna do right now.

Aren't you rubbing the frame at full lock? If not, how do you rate? I've got the 5.5" TC lift and I rub the frame with 33x12.50s on stock wheels.

BTW UWGriz, I thought you were going to solid axle?

4wDakota:
The solid axle plan has been put on hold for now but that's still the ultimate goal. I actually might have a line on front and rear Dana 60s with 5.73 gears and ARBs that are already the right width. If I can get my hands on those...

Message: I took care of most of my rubbing probs by trimming a 1" x 3" wedge from the bumper fascia. It's not the prettiest in the world but will get me by til I come up with a more permanent solution.
