Message: ok, i just got a 98 dak 4x4 cc, and was wondering what mods to do to it 1st. i want a 3" body lift, exhaust and intake. thats probly all ill do to it for now, just to get it sounding better and looking better. ive read through a million posts on lifts, exhaust, and intakes, so this is what ive gathered so far. .... do the lift 1st, cuz the other 2 wont match up after the lift if i do them 1st, after the lift i can make my own homemade intake for cheaper, and for the exhaust, would i be better off buying just a muffler and tips, then taking those to a muffler shop and having them custom bend some pipe to fit my newly lifted truck?? my friend swears by magnaflow, but he has a camaro, and i havent seen many posts here on magnaflow, anyone got any input on them?? i considered the dynomax too, and havent heard much good about flowmaster so i thought id stay away from them. i also want the best deal price wise as possible. oh yea.... i ordered clear corner lenses, they should be here soon. as for rims/tires, i dont have enough cash for all that at once so i was going to leave the stockers on it, plus theyre almost brand new. i saw a post and one guy said they didnt look too bad with the 3" lift so ill try it and see i guess. does all this make sense???

Message: anyone have any input, im mostly interested in what to do about the exhaust after the lift. also i was under my truck yesterday and noticed that my cat is way back by the muffler, just forward of the rear wheel. ive never seen one that far back. are all dakotas like that?? i only ask because when looking through cat back systems on the web i see they come with alot more tubing than i would need for a catback system, with it being so far back. oh yea.... where can i get a service manual?? no one around here seems to have them or even know where to get one other than the dealer. and a factory manual is expensive.

Message: First, why a body lift? Are you all about SHOW or will you really GO? In my humble opinion, body lifts are crap. They serve no real purpose. Bigger tires? Who cares if you don't have the suspension to give you the desired wheel travel to be able to have some real fun? Spend the extra money and get a real lift. You'll be glad you did the first time you take your truck out mobb'n with the boys and your girlfriend see's you pull a couple of feet of air without thinking twice. Trust me bro. I thought about a body lift too until I did the research.
As for your exhaust. It depends on what is legal. I'm in Cali and nothing is really legal here so we're really restricted but we get creative and still get the bad ass sound we're looking for. I went with a SpinTech muffler (2 in; 3 out) because I like the sound over a Flowmaster but they cost the same and it's really up to you. I cut the pipe right after the muffler and turned it straight down. This gives it a deeper throatier sound without a loss in dB. The neighbors hate it but it's legal. You don't get a tail pipe stick'n out the back with pretty chrome tips but this ain't no disco truck anyway. Whatever you chose, make sure that you find a shop that is willing to swap around different mufflers and tail pipe configurations to help you decide. They should do this for free and if they won't, then they don't deserve your business.
Lastly. My truck is not all banged up and crappy looking but it is rigged and ready for action. If you want a pretty disco truck then good for you. It's your truck and you can make it look however you want. It's not about me or anybody else, it's about what you want. But if you want a truck that looks bad ass and does what it looks like it should, do some research and I'm sure you'll probably change your mind about the body lift.
Take care bro and drive hard.

Message: most of us do live in city limits,, and when you pay 500$ a month for a truck you kinda wanna keep it nice looking and eye appealing to the ladies ;)
but at the same time have 4x4 and power that can get you through some tuff stuff......
if you're gonna get a bad offroad machine get a old 70 chevy or dodge with no pain job and susp lift it with huge tires and trash that around
unless you wipe your ass with cash don't trash your brand new vehicle......
just my opinion

Message: so....back to the exhaust ?'s......i cant find a pic anywhere online so ill have to ask again, is the cat supposed to be way in the back just forward of the rear wheel?? i thought it was usually up by the headers where the "Y" comes together. i want to get a catback system but now im confused cuz looking at the location of my cat, then looking at the pics of the catback systems online, the pics seem to have way more exhaust tubing than i would need to do a catback system. and with it that far back, would it even give me much more performance?? could i possibly move the cat forward towards the engine, then run bigger exhaust back?? would this hurt anything??

Message: My cat is halfway under the passengers side and the cab. My muffler is what's riding very near to the rear axel. Maybe you don't have a CAT and your really looking at the muffler.

Message: no, mines the same as yours, i just thought that was back a bit. never had a vehicle with a cat that far back. so whats the best way to do my exhaust?? can i move my cat forward and then put a catback on from there?? (just seems like that would give more flow than doing a catback from where its at now) and if so will that mess up my O2 sensor readings??
