 Subject: suspension lift for 99 ?

Hi, I have a question about my truck. i've been lookin for a lift for it and i'm wanting the 5 1/2 suspension lift from tough country, I've looked in the magazines and it says for 97 - 99, but the local 4x4 shop tells me that it wont work for me cause i have a rack, is there any truth to this? Does anybody have one on their 99?

I have that exact lift on my 99. It is made for that year. The 2000+ are the Dakotas with the Rack n Pinion steering.

It depends on the build date of the vehicle. If it`s a late 99 , it`s possible it has a rack on it.
They don`t always wait for the next complete model year to make changes. Makes it real fun for the guys behind the parts counters!

So if i was to have the late model, then would i have to wait for the 2000 and + dakotas lifts, or would that not work either and i'm just screwed?

If indeed , you find that you have the rack-and-pinion steering on your truck, you`re screwed like the rest of us.

This may be a dumb question, but how hard would it be to switch the front end on my truck, since its basically coming off for the lift anyways. Just a thought, maybe a little to much thinking on my part?

I`ve read here , somewhere , about a place in Hawaii that adapts the T.C. kit to fit 00s and up.
I don`t know exactly what they do. They either custom fab a steering set-up for the r&p , or swap it out all together. I`m not sure.
Sounds like a lot of work to me!

i was just thinking about this also. how hard would it be to swap out the rack and pinion for the older worm sector?

Yeah, thought about that one too but, i'm a ok on the front end deal and i'm ordering my 5 1/2 suspension lift tomorrow.
