Subject: Dude! IP: Logged
Message: Hey guys, either i was dreaming or it was reality, but i saw a dakota that was about 6 inches higher than my truck. I got 8 inches of lift on my 4x2 and this truck totally towers over mine. It's higher than the 4x4 Off Road Rams...i didn't have my dig camera with me at the time but the pix is stuck in my memory. It's either custom lift or they got a new lift kit out there that turns a dakota into a Sears Tower.

Message: Hey Chaximus, how many inches is your truck from the top of the tire to the bottom part of the fender flare (on all 4 tires)? Also, the distance between flat ground and the lower part of the frame? Last time I checked my tire to fender flare was about 9.75 inches. I'll have to check the rest and let you know. It would be interesting to see how much lift people get with different set-ups!
Thanks man!

Message: Or it could have been a 4x4 with a 5.5" TC lift and a 3" body on 36's. That would be about 5 inches taller than a 2wd 8" lift w/33's.

Message: Wolf - It does matter if it's Rack or Worm Sector. You have to drop the steering down with everything else. You can't just move the Control arms down you have to move the differentals and the steering.

Message: well what i was thinking... i might just be on crack or something but im just looking at it from a how do i make it work point of view... what i was thinking was droping the A-arm down how many inches... using some sort of adapter to add X amount of inches but the adapter cannot pivit... then adding a piece that of steel pipe (thick walled pipe because if its solid it will bend easier) but have it wrap around and bolt in where the stearing linkage meets the spindle if its solid enough it should be able to turn the wheel without bending... i havnt figured out how to attack the stabalizer bar tho... when i get a chance i want to make some drawing and put them in PDF format and up on a page so you all can see exactly what im talking about... now i know i dont know too much about suspension so you dont have to tell me that ;) but with this setup how i think it would work would allow you to keep all factory angles for stearing and what not because your not droping them at all just the A-arm... this is also why it would only work for 2wd's and also i know it wouldnt give you alot of flex so no rock crawling but ya know i dont know a single person that rock crawls with a 2wd ;) but please post more info on why you think this would or would not work because well thats what i need is info... thanks

Message: Just remember one thing. The a-arm can only go down so far before it hits the frame that covers teh coil springs. The fabtech 3 inch lift brings down the upper a-arms so close to the frame that if you hit a bump, it hits the frame, big jolt. So going down any further will kill the ride, unless u make a custom A-arm that goes around the frame for more articulation.

Message: I got one word for you guys... SPINDLES.
Most of Fabtechs kits use 3" spindles to acheive a 6" total lift with 3" coils. There has been some talk about it for the Dakota, but R&D costs to much for the demand (or lack there-of). Some (including me) have considered trying a Ram spindle from a 6" kit, but I'm out of money for a while so that won't be happening. :-(
All-in-all, spindles would be the next easiest step in lifting our 2wds 3" higher. Thats just my thought!
