I have an 02 Durango and plan on putting a suspension lift on the vehicle. I have read the comments about Whiplashsuspension and Truckin Sus.

It seems that Whip lash has the better quality products but sacrifices ground clearance. Then you have Truckin that has some front suspension alignment and steering problems but gives you better clearance.

My questions relate to the driveline angles and how bad they would be affected. Then a tech at Dodge told me that larger tires (35s) would completely burn up the transmision (the computer can't be recalibrated???) and that the ABS would not work (brakes may be applied with out the pedal being depressed)

Any help would be great.

Larger tires may wear out certain parts a little sooner , but unless you really beat the veh. off-road you`ll never be able to notice. Just keep an eye on your suspension related components(ie. ball joints, steering parts,etc..)and you will be fine , especially with 35s. Now if you could find a way to put 44s on it you would wear things out in a hurry.
Also the ABS will work just like it does now, you should have no problems.I had 38s on my last Dak. and had no problems at all with my tranny or ABS.
If anyone made gears for the new front ends yet , I`d reccommend getting them to help with your speedo. and tranny shift points , but it`s not required.

keep in mind that suspension lifts don't really give you more ground clearence, bigger tires do.

in this case i would definately go with which ever lift is higher in quality.

I've got a 1998 Durango with a 5 1/2" Tuff Country lift a 3" body lift and 35" Super Swamper SSR's. I put the 5 1/2" kit on 1st and had bought and mounted the 35's. NOTE: DO NOT TRY 35's if you have fender flares!!! My wife wanted to drive it without the 3" body lift and the first turn she pulled off half of the fender flare. I drove around for 2 weeks on the 32's until I got the 3" kit. If anyone has any questions just email me.

I have a 2000 durango with the truckin suspension lift. Although it was a 6.5 lift I probably got 8 out of it. I added an add-a-leaf to the rear. I am running 35 inch baja's with NO body. I used a dremel to trim a minute part of plastic fender and have never rubbed. It corners better than factory and rides good. The only problem I have had is every 3000 miles the steering sector moves an 1/8 inch on the shaft causing the steering to bind a little. Fix it and its good to go.

No I haven't driven the Durango truly off road. My son actually drives it back and forth to school mostly.(I'm sure its probably been in some fields on the way home though) We did play some in the snow without problems. We did make sure while installing the lift we welded everything in addition to the parts the kit included just in case we went off road. I think trail riding would be fine but I'm not sure how much punishment it woud take.

Well if your son is like me when I was younger I would be safe to say your suspension will take the abuse. That is one of the only positive things that I have read about truckin. Maybe the durango lift is built differant or truckin isnt that bad?

I have a 00 dodge durango and it has a 10" suspension lift. It rides nice but could be better. It sways a little bit when i hit higher speeds such as 85-90 mph but that problem will be fixed soon. Also someone said earlier that the steering goes off i have the same problem if there is a way to fix it let me know. Thanks.
