Subject: to fit 31's on a 4x2 ?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2wd dakota with the stock 29's on the 16 inch rims. I want to do something simple so I can fit 15x10 inch rims with procomp 31x10.5's. Would the fabtech 2 inch simple lift be enough with some trimming or would they rub on the frame?

Or what if I did the fabtech 2" and a 2" body lift as well. 4 inches should be more than enough to fit 31's shouldn't it? I could probably even fit 32's then with minor trimming.

I ran 31s on my 97 dakota 2wd before I got it lifted. I ran the 31s with no lift on the stock rims. the only rubbing i had was on the frame at full turn. But that's easily corrected with the steering stops.

Hey cadetdak, you said you ran 31's without an lift on a 97 2wd, how wide were the tires? cause the wider the tires, the less height you have to work with.

the tires were 31x10.50 Fun and Muds I forget who makes them. yeah they worked pretty well but I wasn't satisfied with them so I put on a bopdy lift as well and ran 33s then two years later I totaled it (long story...) so now I have a 2002 QC 4X4 runnignt he 33s.

sorry missed a mod there was a suspension lift as well. after the 31s but before the 33s. to run 33s on a 2wd you need suspension lift and a body lift

so if I do the 2 inch suspension and the 2 inch body I should be able to fit 32's with no problem?

I would assume so. all I had was a little rubbing from the 33s which took some minor triming of parts you can see anyways.

I am running 31x10.50x15 now on my 2000 Dakota with a stock suspension. My only rub problem is when I hit a nasty railroad crossing thats uneven and the drivers side tire hits the fender, hasn't done any damage though. AIM sells a set of 3" raised Spindles for like $299 (US$) that would be perfect, can leave stock suspension alone then.

I'd like to see someone make lifted spindles for the Dakota. But AIM DOESN'T have them.

It is only a 2 wheel drive and Yes, AIM carries 3" lifted spindles for $299.99. I am not seeing them now but 3 months ago they listed both coil springs that raised a Dakota 2" and spindles that raised 3". They have also redone their webpage since then. I'll keep my eyes open and post a link when I see it.

AIM is an auto accessories place, I think their website is www.aimind.com and I had seen 3" lift spindles advertised for a Dakota there about 2 months back (http://www.truckn-store.com/product_list.asp?id=348).

They have since redone their website and I only see them for RAMS now.

They also carried 2" lifted coil springs (http://www.truckn-store.com/product_list.asp?id=339).

so do you think I could fit 31x12.5's with the 2" kit from fabtech...on my 2wd? I understand I should be able to fit 31x10.5 with no lift so do you think that would work? Also it would be on the 15x10 rims with the 3.75(?) backspacing.

Actually the backspacing on the 15x10rim is 3.6something. Also how big would I have to go lift wise to fit 32x11.5's on the ae 15x8 rims? Apparently they won't fit on the 15x10 rims.

On my 97 Reg. Cab 4x4 that I used to have I was running 31's on 15x10 (with my torsion bars cranked - just a little) and there was no scrubbing at all. So if you just bought the PA 3" body lift to go on your 2wd you should be able to run 31's on 15x10 with no trimming and possibly 32's with minor trimming (depending on the brand tire - I was running Mickey Thompson Baja's at the time)

On my new truck (02 Club Cab 4x4) I have a 3" PA Body Lift, Torsion Bars cranked four turns, and I'm running 33x12.50's on 15x10 - However, I did have to do some trimming as shown in the pics below - NOTE: cutting the bumper on a Dodge is very easy, all you need is a sharp razor blade and you can get a clean cut.

you should be find with 31's. I'm not sure about the 15x10 inch wheels. my freind has a single cab 97 four banger dak with 32-11.50 thornbirds on what look like 15x8's they do scrub but not too bad in my opinion.
