Message: This question is really aimed at the REAL Dodge "experts" we have in this forum...
If I get the "MAX" payload torsion bars and springs ordered and installed by my dealer, can I raise my 2001 QC enough to stuff 33" tires under it? (That's really as far as I want to go.) I also understand that a suspension lift kit actually relocates the mounting position of the front suspension but I was also wondering if replacing 1/2 ton components with 3/4 ton components might get a similar lift? Any suggestions will be appreciated! (Still not convinced a body lift will suit my purposes.)
Thanks,

Message: I guess I'm not a REAL Dodge "expert", but I'm in about the same situation as you. I ordered my quad cab with the beefiest stuff the factory would throw on it as you're describing. As it stands right now (suit your purpose or not) the body lift is all there is. I am not a great fan of them either and intend one day to add/replace with a suspension lift when available. Unless you know a master welder/fabricator that can fart around with your truck for weeks/months custom fabricating something.
And, I guess I don't understand the question concerning 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton parts. The Ram and Dakota are totally different animals. Especially since 2000 when Dakotas started coming with rack/pinion front ends. Can you clarify that a bit, greybeard?

Message: Blizzard,
I read a post on this forum a while back about the "max payload" option for Dakotas. It's listed on the "4 A Dodge" web page under suspension specs. It seems like the highest rating was 2,000 lbs. versus the 1,450 lbs. standard rating. The 2K torsion bars were definitely thicker according to the spec sheet. So, I was thinking that would be like going from 1/2 ton to 3/4 ton specs, which should make my DAK ride somewhat (maybe 2"?)higher. THEN if I torqued the torsion bars just a tad, I could possibly reach 3" with less "stress" on them than the standard suspension versions.
Do you follow my thinking? /gb

Message: Yes, I follow you. I didn't see the specs on the 2k payload on the website though. Max payload it says for 2001 is 1,350 (which my sticker says 1,390 ... ordered it with as large a payload as I could get ... or so I was told) and 2002 payload was increased to 1,530. These statements were for the quad cabs anyway.
I know this doesn't answer your question, but I guess the only way you'd know would be to find one with this 2k payload option sitting on a lot somewhere (maybe ?) and compare it to the "basic" Dak sitting next to it. Your reasoning sounds right, but wouldn't know til you tried!
