Subject: body lift complications? IP: Logged
Message: Yo, i'm getting a 3 inch body lift for my 2wd 2000 dakota...did anyone have any complications? I heard one guy with a 99 had problems with bumper brackets, had to drill or something. Let me know if you have experience. Thanks!

We just welded them to the frame.
If you can figure it out take pictures & post it.

Message: hey i bought a '98 dak with the 3" body lift already bolted on with 31" BFG's. are you guys talking about those brackets that hold the corners of the steel front bumper? if so, the ass who had the dak before me never installed them. instead he added the brackets to the toolbox with some other items that came with the truck. now my front bumper sags at the corners. it's not that big of a deal but the job looks half ass.
tell you one thing...if you are looking to buy a brush guard that bolts to the frame (most do), be willing to modify those mounting brackets that come with the guard, if you have a body lift. learn from someone that has gone threw the pain

Message: Hey Knobbyman. What were the brackets suppose to be for? I'm doing a 3" PA body Lift for my 98 2wd Dak this weekend and I've been reading up on all the threads for this kit. This ones got me. Looks like I need to do a little welding unless anyone else has figured this problem out. Thanks, Greg

Dakota talked about it in the install tutorial on the above link. Look at step #12. I'm installing mine saturday and have read the instructions a couple of times and still don't understand that part. Maybe when I have all of the parts in front of me I can piece it together. If not I'll do like Dakota and and drill new holes.

Message: I wouldn't go any bigger than 31 inch tires unless you put a combo lift(body lift and suspension lift 6" total) then you could go with 33' tires.
Wouldn't want any other!

Message: Rich ... you should be able to go to 32s after the 3" body lift with no rubbing. I have 33s with only a 3" body lift, but I did have to do some minor trimming to the front valance and plastic wheel well shield. I have my torsion bars cranked 1.5"+/- and different backspacing on my wheels, so those both makes a difference too.
Good luck, ~Tracy

Message: If you have a 4X4 these are you options...
Rancho 3in suspension lift - best bet
Tuff Country 5.5 in suspension lift - O.K.
Truckin` Suspension 4.5 , 6.5 , and 9.5 in kits -
never on my truck
If it`s a 2WD truck Fabtech is your only option , it`s around 2.5-3.5 inches.

Message: I just installed my PA 3" lift, took about 6hours by myself. No problems, except that I could not figure out why the directions describe the front corners with torx screws..and messing with them. I attached the "slightly bent" plates to the front corner brackets, removed the brackets from the corners of the bumper, installed the bumper, then installed the corner brackets. Everything went smoothly, will extend the 4wd shifter tomorrow.

Message: Just finished a 3" body lift on my 02' QC 4x4 4.7 Yehaa! I have to say that without this forum I probably still wouldn't be done. I picked up so many tips that I finished the lift by myself in about 6 hours and thats with putting on the new tires. Make sure that you do some searches for "body lifts" on this site and do some home work, it will pay off.
The front bumper on my 02' was only attached with two bolts from the factory so the two C brackets just went right on top of the frame and the bumper went onto the bracket. It all lined up perfect and took about 15mins to do. The other two side brackets are a complete mystery I couldn't attached them to the front bumper if I wanted to. The back bumper brackets were completely useless. I followed the directions and when I put on the rear bumper I had to laugh. The bumper would have been level except for the fact that it would have stuck out from the back of the truck about 6-8"s. I ended up drilling two more holes in the frame 3"s higher and used the original highest hole as a guide. If you do it this way it will be stronger. Also I didn't need to extend my radiator hose or my fuel filler hose, didn't take out the fan shroud used a sawzall, didn't need to undo the wire harness under the radiator support, and I used the auto trans shift cable rubber lined hold down bracket to secure the spare tire lowering rod. Last but not least I was all worried about using 33's trimming and rubbing. I got a set of Centerline Sniper 17" rims with 5"s of backspacing and 33 12.5 17 ProComp MT's. No rubbing unless I've got the wheel turned sharp to one side and going down a steep hill and no trimming. Best of all the tires are tucked within the stock fender flares. I really don't like the wide tire look.

Message: I installed a p.a. 3" body lift on my 2000 Dakota awhile back. Everthing is good except now that big plastic guard for up under the front end(had a removable hole to get at the oil filter) does not fit. That really isn't a problem other than it leaves the transmission lines running to the cooler exposed and open. Has anybody found a good way to fix this? anything from making the stock guard work or putting on some type of brush guard? thanks
Matt

Message: I have a set of 4 BFG All-Terrain ko's, 33X12.5R15
on American Eagle Alloys wheels. 15X10" 6X4.5" bolt pattern. 3 5/8" backspacing, these will fit all Dakota/Durango with 15" wheels.
Only a few hundred miles on them at most. I put on a 3" body lift, could run 33's on the stock rims but the stock wheels weren't quite wide enough to air the 33"s up all the way and I need the payload capacity. So I bought these wheels, but the offset made them rub, bad. So now I run 32" tires.
$750 obo. I'm in the St. Louis area. I can email you pics of the wheels/tires
