Subject: rancho and body lift will fit 35's? IP: Logged
Message: Ok...I've heard it from alot of people but I haven't seen anyone with the set-up...Can 35's be run if I have 3" rancho, 3" body lift, and torsion bars crank with leveling blocks in the rear? If they can, how about some evidence or some explination so I don't kick myself in the a$$ when they end up not fitting or I have to trim a copious amount of my fender off. Somebody give me a little peace of mind, please.

Message: Born2Steel21 - I honistly doubt that you can run 35's with only 6" of lift. Once I get my truck out of the shop. I should have aprox 6" of lift. We'll see if I could run 35's or not. I'll keep you posted.

Message: I say you can. I plan on adding a 3" rancho later on to clear 35's also.
This truck has a 5.5" Tuff Country cranked to 6". He's running 35's on 8" wide rims. He uses 33's offroad but 35's are good on the street
This Durango is the same thing 5.5" cranked to 6" to clear 35's on an 8" rim.
Note that the 35's rub during offroading but that is with only 6" of lift. The rancho lift can easily be cranked to 4". That's 7" total with a body lift.
I'd be willing to bet it would clear. I plan on running 4" on the Rancho when I put it on and 35's on 10" wide rims.

Message: thanks for the explanation...it sounds like it'll work...hmm...I just bought the Rancho and the body lift...just need tires...would it be too much to use the stock rim for 35x12.50? Is that what they got mounted above in the pics? I might just wait and go with 33's for now and wait till I see someone else try this set-up...*cough cough* ( 4wDakota ) *cough cough*...lol

Message: the 15x8's or the 16x8's should be able to handle it just fine.. the 15x7's would be to narrow.

Message: You could install the suspension lift and wait on the body lift till you have the $$$ for rims. Then it would be a matter of slapping on the body lift in a day.
As for the stock rims, it would be tight. 33's on the stock rims rub on the frame in front of the truck because the wheel is set so far in. Your best bet would be 15x8 or 15x10 aftermarkets with less backspacing so it moves the tire away from the frame.
I think both of the trucks above have 8" rims, either way 8" or 10" rims will work.
Don't wait on me because I'm still staring at my body lift on my kitchen table! I pray that I'll have time this saturday to slap it on. The suspension lift won't come for probaby another year because before I step up to 35's I'll need to get rid of these 3.55 gears and that's gonna be about $1000 to change out both sets of gears and add some sort of locker to the front.
I spent most of yesterday on a plane flying to Illinois and back. While I was flying I read my collection of 4wheel magazines that had stories on solid axle swaps. It's really tempting and since I'd spend $1200+ for the Rancho and $500+ for the locker and gears for the front independant axle its a toss up. $1700+ for Independent with a weak CV joint and Dana 35 center section or $2000+ for a Dana 44 with locking hubs and a detroit locker. For now I'll just set aside money for it and wait.

Message: 4.56's would be the preferable for 35" tires.
4.10's for 33's
But that's just my preferance you would need at least 4.10's for the 35" tires.

Message: The only way to get gear's for a '97-'99 Dakota with a Dana 35 Center section is to check with your local driveline shop. The place here in the Sarasota/Bradenton, FL area, Fleet Pride (Formally Driveshaft Specialist) qouted me between 700 to 800 dollars just for the front and rear ring and pinions, that wasn't including shim kits, crush sleeve, bearings, or anything else you need to install the new gears. And a rancho 3" kit and a 3" body lift will clear 35's just fine but like Dakota said you will have to run a 15x8 rim and you can't run a tire any wider than a 12.50 in width.
