Subject: Pics of my 3" PA Body lift install
IP: Logged

Message:

Looks like I'm the happy owner/installer of a Performance accessories 3" body lift! I've taken a few shots with my digital camera of the process and thought I'd share them with anyone interested, as I've learned from other peoples pictures and information here! Everything went pretty smooth overall, no major problems. I did NOT have to remove my transfer case level to cut and weld it, I simply extended it with some metric allthead and homemade metric coupler (tacked 4 10mm-1.5 nuts together!) and I can get into all the ranges. The gas filler tube I didnt remove, but it is a tight stretch (no pic of these items sorry!) The front bumper was a little tricky and the rear bumper they dont take into acount if you have a factory reciever, so i had to do some cutting/welding there... I am running P285/R75/16 BFG AT KO's (33x11.5) on factory 2001 wheels. I have a little rubbing in the front of the frame, but theres plenty of meat to grind away. I also have a K&N tube & filter that I had to cut the tube short make a new bracket. I think all in all it came out great. It does not look too "monster truckish" but has a mean "factory tuff" look, exactly what I wanted! Theres also a picture of a snake who decided to check cmon in and check it out... hehehe... Also if you look close you'll see my prostreet camaro in the background.

Hope this helps someone else whos planning on doing the lift, I know i learned alot from you guys! email or write to the thread any questions or comments... Thanx everyone!

Sweet truck! My Flame Red 98 4x4 should look like that by saturday afternoon!
Did you have to pull up the console to get to the 4x4 shifter? I am planning on leaving it in and trying to pull the shifter out from the bottom of the truck and weld in the extension. Any thoughts on that.

Thanks,
Corey

The truck shop who did my PA installation did not remove the center console. However, the 3inch welded extension was not long enough. The truck would not go into 4x4 neutral or 4x4 Lo.
They fabbed a 4 inch one and it works. The shifter sits a little higher than normal so I'm thinking if you made a 3 3/4 inch fabbed one that would work perfect.

sweet!
the main reason to buy performance accessory kits
is the steering extention that bolts up to the steering box not like the trail master kit that has you cut the rod and extent it with welded u channel!
great job on the pics and great looking truck!

Well like i said before, i must have lucked out with my transfer case shifter, because all i had to do was extend the lever with a threaded coupler and piece of threaded rod, instead of removing it and welding that piece in. I did take my console apart just in case, and it was one of the first steps anyhow.. I'll take some pics of my extension if your interested. I made a metric extension out of 4 10mm-1.5 nuts tack welded together, bought the nuts at Home Depot (my favotire store!)... So far i love the lift! I've been getting lots of compliments on it. My one friend who helped me likes it so much, we're going to lift his Tacoma shortly! Thanx for the compliments, and good luck if your planning this lift install.. I'll help as much as I can if anyone needs pics or questions answered!

The pics are sweet!!! I'm thinking about lifting mine, but how exactly do you lift the body??? Do you take all the bolts out and then one by one put the blocks in, or do you need some sort of cradle to lift the entire unit as one???

I'm due for new rubber soon, and may go bigger if lifted!!!

could you please email me the pics of the threaded cupler you made. I am installing my pa 3" lift and would rather use a coupler instead of cuttung the 4wd shift lever.
my email address is dak_sport@yahoo.com

thanks

When you saw the kit, did you think at any moment"I could have manufacture this myself with an aluminum rod and longer screws"? Or there where parts of the kit that you couldn't substitude for something you could find a local friendly hardware store? Cause I have only seen the pictures on the internet for the 3" body lift but they are not detailed. Maybe they do it that way so you won't realize you can make the parts yourself.

I just installed the 3" PA lift kit. Most of the stuff I believe you could make yourself, but when the price of the kit is only $157.00 Why waste the time. Most of the cab bolts i had to make myself cause they were not long enough after i attached my step bars, but other than that it was pretty easy. I love the new look.
