My Pics
I am getting the tonneau seamed around roll bars this week if the shop can fit me in(they are good, but real busy). I am also contemplating adding another pair of rear bars so it is a double/double instead of double/single. Grizzly is it will not work, but I think I can. I will be running the wiring for rollbar lights today and will also be adding a 5th Hella to the light bar once the other set I ordered gets here. The 6th light will go underneath my back bumper for a very bright back-up light when I need it. Gotta a few thumbs up and "hey nice truck" shouts yesterday, it feels good to look different from all the other Dak's driving around town:)
I am working on something custom for the front-end, similar to the pre-runner to hold two more 550's. Might have that done before I go back to work on Tuesday if get the spare time. Finals week is coming up at school in two weeks so I have to set aside time to study:(
Notice I have been studying my HTML? Just made my first link! WOO HOO!

Message: Thanks guys! Only here can everyone appreciate the mods we make to our Dakotas, whether big or small, free or expensive. Good news about mods travels fast and bads news travels faster!!
I agree with your comment Hawkeye. Lucky for you, the QC has a shorter bed and doesn't suffer from the same look when it is stock. Although... Roll Bars might look pretty damn good on your already sweet lookin ride. Oh, and by the way, dirty truck pics are as good as clean truck pics, it is a truck:) I need to make some dirty truck pics for my photo album to show that it is not just another pretty face with Xterrains:) I noticed you were hoping for some rain so I am doing a rain dance on your behalf(just hoping it doesn't rain on me, I've had enough already).
I know others have thought about Gen III Roll Bars, so the verdict is in... they look and fit awesome. Worth the $$ IMO, although lighting costs nearly as much as roll bars:) Small trade-off for both looks an functionality. I had a Mopar Bedrail/lightbar combo that I bought and sold for dealer cost, new in the box. I ordered it and then decided it wasn't want I wanted after waiting almost 4 weeks since it was on backorder(they don't sell many) and finding that a manufacturer was making roll bars for our gen III's. Sight unseen I ordered them up before I got my Mopar parts, you will now find an ear to ear grin on my face. This is my first truck with roll bars and I love it.
Just put on the 5th HELLA 550 tonight, and by the way... my truck is officially a moving football stadium:) Coming home the back roads from my cousins house was freakin awesome pushing 275 watts of lighting with highbeams and foglights on at the same time(modded the wiring to work from another thread, works great). If anyone wants the offroad look, offroad use or both, get the Grizzly roll bars!! If you are not scared of a few holes in your Dak of course.
BlackDak02, you are the html king! LOL!
dakotamaxx, the one and only manufacturer of Dak Roll Bars is Grizzly. I got mine wholesale for $450 + tax, you can expect to pay $550+ on-line. I suggest trying a local auto accessory shop first. I you lived in NY and could pick it up, I could get it for cost for you. Happy shopping!

Message: In case you havent thought of it, if you get a can of spray on under coating, and hose down the ends of the bolts under you bed, and then do something like get you bed Line-xed or Rhino-ed, and have them go over the bolts and roll bar base plates, you will NEVER have to worry about any rust around those holes or on the bolts. Just a thought.

Check their site out, they have stuff that defies imagination, like Fubar told me once I get in their store 'I'll be like a kid in a candy store', LOL!

Message: Actually I bought a can of paintable undercoating yesterday just for that purpose Hawkeye! I have a can of matching silver metallic paint for my truck that I plan on spraying so it blends in underneath a little better after. I have been thinking about the spray-in bedliner. I cannot find a Line-X or Rhino Dealer within 300 miles of my house so I would have to go with Ziebart. Not sure if theirs is nearly as good or not, but it's either that or Herculiner which I don't want. I got a gift-certificate for one at xmas time, but used it for other goodies at the same shop:) I'll probably get it done this summer to seal out moisture and of course NY winters. Not to mention, cover up all the scratches in the bed from carrying things like blankets and pillows for camping:) Luv our clearcoat. The tonneau will keep most of the big crap outta there but around roll bar tubes there will be some leakage which means salt getting in the bed and around the bolts, holes, etc.
BlackDak02, that is a cool product, I think I might buy a gallon of the black semi-gloss for my frame/suspension. Gonna see if I can get some at dealer cost through my uncle though as $91 is steep for a gallon of any paint! If it does what it says and keeps everything looking like new, it would be worth it and save me from doing the Rustoleum touchup everytime I wash my Dak to keep the frame and suspension from rusting all to hell and looking like crap.

Message: the only thing i dont like is the fact that it takes up so much of the bed in the middle, the bars that came stock with our gen1 sports come down ontop of the wheel wels and leave the bed more open to hauling crap
jsut my 3.9 cents

Message: The wheel well mounted type would be better if you still wanted to put anything large in the back, unfortunately there is only one manufacturer and one style. It is obviously not for those who need the full use of their bed on a regular basis. Me, I have a "work truck" for that kinda stuff so it's no big deal and it has a better appearance than the wheel well mounted IMO since a true roll-bar mounts to frame through bed not the wheel wells.

Message: That's right SuperBee, everyone has different needs when it comes to anything mounted to or in the bed depending on what they use it for. Too bad the newer Daks don't have any other options than the one I installed, maybe their will be at some point.
Thanks Dave, that would be cool, I am looking to have a colormatched or light gray spray-in. I know there are problems with fading over time and not being able to color match if a repair has to be done but I don't haul that much in the back and my tonneau cover is going back on tomorrow so the sun won't have a chance to fade the spray-in!

Message: 2THEXTRM, That roll bar is so sweet looking on our Dakotas especially with the light bar. I'm so torn. I wanted to get a roll bar but I also want one of those secure wheather tight AeroCovers that has the two different sections that pop up.
Such decisions...... (sigh)

Message: I know I'm kinda late for this post but I was thinking of getting a rollbar for my dakota and after seeing your truck I'm definatly getting one. In your pictures it shows the rollbar in pieces, do you need to weld it together or does it bolt together? Also did you get a lightbar for the top or did you mount the lights directly to the rollbar?
