Message: I'm looking for a 3-4" lift for my 87 Dakota SE.
I'd like it to be cheap. I'm not lookin for a real expensive one. Money is kinda thin cuz of all my upgrades lately. I was thinking about making my own block lifts, but I'd still need lifts for the front.
I'd appreciate any help on finding lifts for my 87

Message: Only thing out there is a 3in body by Perf. Acc. or Trailmaster. Have to extend steering shaft though. It will be listed as for 4wd only but will work. Suspension will be from AIM 3in coils and upper a arms. $400.00 + install. Thats it. Good Luck.

Message: Thanks Joe E. I've decided that a 3in lift might be a waste. With 3" it would only sit about as high as a four wheel drive. So I think I want a 6" or 7". Could I put that kind of lift on my 2wd? Thanks

Message: No way partiner. Only 3in suspensionlift will work. Then you could get another 3 outa a body lift. But the pack and pinion steering can only handle 3 in os susp. lift. If you just gota have more than that, your looking at a couple thousand dollars worth of solid axel swapping. That way you could run a solid axel ( undriven) in the front with leaf springs. But way expensive. Im out town on someones computer, talk to you more Thurs. Good Luck.

Message: Yeah man, Just make sure you gotta a shop that can take care of metal working. Basically the only difference with the 2wd from the 4x4 kit is the steering shaft. The 4x4s is stock longer than our 2wds. So after the 3in are put between the body and the frame (ie, suspension, steering, etc.) the shaft must be extended longer. All you gotta do is get a 1in metal bar ( something about the size of a piece of ree-bar, and bolt it in the steering shaft. And your done. I used Trailmasters 3in body. Maybe Perf. Acc. will work too but I cant confirm it. Any other ?...

Message: thanks for the info joe.
have you run into any other problems with the lift other than the steering shaft? do you have any pics of what you had to do with it, i kinda understand, but i'd like to have a pic to give the shop so they'd know what to do. did you have to do any fan shroud clearance, and if so what all is involved? how big of tires are you running now? sorry for the 1000 questions, i just want to know what i'm getting myself into.

Message: OK, for starters, I had a shop install mine. But I had them document everything they did. I will see if I can dig up pict of the steering extension. (But I gaurentee they can do it). The fan shroud; all we did is hack saw the top off. We did not remove it, just cut it to drop the lower part, and raise the upper part with the body. Just used some metal links and bolted it all together. Other than that, the bumpers were relocated. I actually had them weld them on where I thought it looked good. They look better than stock local. Also the normal linkage extenders and gas neck extender, etc that all body lift trucks must have. No big deal if you have a quallified shop do it. The Trailmaster kit is like $150.00 plus install. Total was $500.00 for me. With all the custom work done. But it looks really good. I run 31x10.50s on 15x7 in rims. Anything else I can help on? If not, good luck, if so, hit me with'em...

Message: i found that truckin susp. has a 3inch lift coil/a-arm kit and also a 5inch spring over for the rear. Daystar has 2 1/2" lift coil spring spacers. i just put 30x11.5 TSL/SX swampers on the rear w/ no problems even on factory rims

Message: AS far as I know, no one has even installed the AIM lift before. And many people have had big problems with that comapnys stuff. Also, Unless you modify the a arms, you will not be able to run the 3in spring and a 2.5in daystar spacer. One the steering cant handle it, the tie rod ends will bind, and the arms will be resting on the frame due to the insane angle on them. So unless you make a cradel system, you will not be able to get the 5.5in of lift on it. Sorry.

Message: w/ the upper and lower a-arms and 3inch spring make it back to almost factory except for the track width which will be wider b/c of the extended lower a-arms and 3inches higher the a-arms are at a lil bit steeper again but not that much. you can drop the rack and pinion about 2inches w/ some home fabbed brackets its not just the coil that gives you the lift but the upper a-arm and coil combo that gives you the 3inches but every thing is worth a try and i hope to succeed in this lift.

Message: Actually the arms give you no lift at all. They just allow you to run a longer coil. Its the coil that actually further seperates the suspension from the truck. From what I have talked to truckinsuspension about, they moved the arms jut enough to get a 3in lifted coil on our dak with no bottoming out. So that means they are changed about 1-2 in. longer than stock. And in honesty, the major change to the arms is the angle at which the ball joints mount to the arms. With a steeper angle on the arms with respect to the frame, the ball joints needed to be adjusted to keep a proper alignment on the tires.
Then your next issue is the whole reputation of this company. From this site, I have heard many horror stories about their quality and cust. service. And from what I could get outa them, no one has actually installed the 3in lift on our Gen I or II dakota. I know for a fact that they list products they dont have in stock. Then they make the needed parts to send out. So your not gettin a proven lift. Just a one off lift.
Dont get me wrong, I hope you can pull it off. Id love to get a system like that on my dak. But I highly doubt it will work. Good Luck to you and please keep us posted.

Message: well we got a 4-wheel aligment rack at out school shop and my teacher used to fabricate race cars for RCR. i know its not gonna be easy and ive never seen a truckin susp. lift either but hey thats what they make lawsuits for right? im sure ill have to do a lil bit of custom fabrication and use some ball joint shims but i think i should be able to do it i just got to make the $$$$$ first im still about $300 from the upper/lower a-arms and 3inch coil but it it works or not im still gonna try
