Subject: Cant find lift kit anywhere, please help IP: Logged
Message: Alright all you Dakota gurus, I have a 92 2WD (I know I know) club cab sport that I am looking to raise. Only problem is, i cant find a kit ANYWHERE. I have been looking for 3 months, no body or suspension kits. I realize that its a 2WD, but if you have ever seen the ride height on these things you would know why I want to lift it at least a little. Please please please help me since I am obviously missing something. Thanks a ton

Message: Just bought a 2" from rough country. It was a pain to install, and now we are having uninstaled. It came with 2 inch from coil spacers. Within a couple days the springs had moved. Took it to the shop and having taken out - apparently they could pop out anytime - and no way to fix it. The shocks they sold to us also did not fit. Please take my experience in so you do not have to go through it.

Message: Hello, hello, hello,
I am Joe E, thats who I be. OK enough with that crap. I have a 1990 Dak, 2wd ext cab. and also like lifts. One problem, there are few lifts out there for us. I have the 2in spacer rough country lift. The guy above doesnt like it, I have had it for a year and a half and have had no problems. Only now its beginning to settle so I am loosing max lift. They only other suspension lift I have found in 2 year of looking is by a contrversial somewhat new company. Called AIM ind. They make 2wd lift kits for tons of applications including our 2wd Daks. Thay are 3in and use taller coil springs, and new upper arms. The kit is $380.00 + shp. I have no tried it but I am gonna whn I get some spare cash. They also have a 3in long travel kit, that comes with the above but also has larger lower arms. It is like $800.00 I am sticking with the regular 3in kit. You have a choice of rear lifts. 1-2 in add-a-leafs, 4in hangers, 2in shackels, or a 4-5 in axel flip kit. I run the 1.5in add-a-leafs and a 2in shackel. No problems.
Body lifts... You can do them if you get a good 4x4 shop that is willing to work with you. I have the 3in trailmaster body lift on my Dak. The only thing you must have custom fabed is the steering linkage extender. A good shop can whip it up easily. And then you have your bumpers gap. I had my shop make relocation brackets out 1/4 in steel. Now my bumpers look actually BETTER than they stock. Closer fit.
With all this installed, you should be able to run 32s with some trimming of the fender (front wheel well, rear corners) My truck has the 2in susp, 3in body, and another 2in rear lift, with good triming I run 31x10.50s on American Racing 15x7 rims. I am moving up to 31.1150 MTs soon. Alittle more trimming! But it is worth it.
I think I have spent on suspension/body lift about $1,000. But it does look good and sticks out alittle. Hope this book helps out alittle. If you need any info or picts, just holler. Im here most days at some time or another. Good Luck
Joe E.

Message: Hey Ryan, you have only a few options. You can use a body lift for a 4wd the same year as yours, you will have to lengthen your steering shaft. The only thing as far as a suspension lift, go to truckinsuspension.com, they have a couple 3 inch lifts, but everybody on this site seems to have the same opinion, that is thier products suck. I don't know from personal experience, just from what I have read here. I was thinking of getting one of thier kits, but no one here on this site can give me any positive feed back. Look at some of the problems knobbyman has had dealing with them. Check out some of his postings. He just bought a lift from them for his new 4wd and it turned out to be a nightmare for him. Good luck!!

Message: 4-5 in on axle flip??
i didnt think you could get that much off it, maybe i jsut underestimate the hight of my truck, im always bitching cuz it sits sooo low and is so small, i mean, im still taller than my truck, im 6'2" and 6'3" with my shoes on, maybe my truck isnt small, maybe im tall? and Joe, get some Grabber MTs like i want, who high is it from the ground to the underside of the toppart of your wheel well?
i jsut want to compare to mine, i could prolly for some 31s with some trimming too, but i dont want to trim, im not that desperate for them, ill stick with the 29.7x10.1 General Grabber MTs that will give me another inch of ups, then ill no longer be eye level with the top of my cab, the add a leafe i decided to get in the rear will also help giving the rear about 1.5 in of lift, after this summer ill post some more pics for you all

Message: OK, AIM/Truckinsuspension/chassis Tech, all the same. I have seen Some of their products that were fine. Like their Chevy full size kits. Alot of trucks around here use them. The 3in lift they have for our Daks has been out there for at least a year and a half. I have been meaning to call them and get a name and number of someone who has used the 2wd Dak lift kit. Maybe do tomarrow. Knobbyman's lift was just off the shelf. He was the first person in the hemisphere to buy that lift. I dont like what happened to him at all, but he did go into an UNproven product and have it put on his truck. And he also wanted it done in his yard. I ALWAYS have my major work done at my great mechanics shop WHERE HE KNOWS WHERE ALL HIS TOOL ARE AND FEELS COMFORTABLE. Might sound goofy but it does make a difference. And, our lift only uses larger springs and modified upper arms. No relocation brackets for steering, or A arms, nor for hangers. That type of 4.5in lift takes major modification of stock parts. Alot more complex than a simple larger spring.
Super Bee, look at your axle. The springs runs under it right. So the lift by fliping the axle is the total thickness of the axle PLUS the amount of the foot that fits between the axle and spring. I have been told it is a 4-5 in lift. Ill measure it tomarrow if I get a chance. I will also measure the distance from the ground to the top of my fender well. Yall have a good one!

Message: Hey Joe E, good luck getting an answer from Aim. I have tried several times to get Ian to give me some people to contact who have installed that particular lift, and all they will say is that they ship 40 or 50 of those Dakota upper contol arms out a week. If they do that, than surely someone could be reached to get some feed back, or you would think that someone on this site would have bought one and could tell us how it worked. I'd love to give that lift a try, but not until I can talk to someone that has actually installed it. Knobbyman is not the only person on this site that is not pleased with thier products. If Ian at Aim can give me some references, I'll buy his product. But as of right now he can't, or for some reason won't. If you can get some sort of answer out of them, please lets us know. Good Luck!

Message: Hey there. I was afarid of hearing that. And them saying they send out 40-50 kits for Daks a week, bull sh!t. That would be like, by simple math, over 3,120 kits sold for these 2wd Daks. Dont sound right to me. Whats up with these guys??? But I am still gonna try it. Ill definitly post any good feedback here, but chances are not likely.
Super Bee, do the 4x4 Daks really have the axle running under the springs stock? I did not know that. I dont do much research for 4wd Daks. Doesnt help me any. But hey, thats for teaching me that! Talk to yall later.

Message: i have the aim/chassis tech long travle kit on my 96 dakota. dont waist your time. first off theres about 7 inches of travel to it, which is not long travel. second of all its built like crap, the crossbar on the top arm isnt even notched, they just built up a fat bead to fill in the gap. the kit does not come with bushings for the top arm and the stock ones do not work. the coil rubs in the coil bucket. and to top it all off the guys that work at aim/chassis tech are nothing close to business men, when i ordered the kit, it was 2 weeks late, when i called about the bushings, they beat around the bush and sent me usless stock bushings. i have the kit on my truck thats made out of chromolly, which was 1,000 something, but to make it more appealing to customers, they started using steel instead because of its lower costs. all in all this company is more of a pain in the ass then anything. i hope this helps some of you out. oh and i read that chassis tech told that joe guy they were sending out 40 to 50 of those arms out a week. if this was the case, we would be seeing lifted dakotas just as often as you see lifted rangers. dont be fooled people.

YIKES!!!!! been looking at pics they look good but you know the story when talking about body lift everyone runs and hides. Why is that, is it cuz of the frame sticking out and looking like an eyesore. go to www.4wheeldrivewholesale.com can find all kinds of kits and tires.
