Message: Well... almost! I DID finish the 3" body lift this weekend, but there is still another 5" to go! I have a 4x2 so now I'm at stock 4x4 height. Still looks good though! I'm planning on putting the Fabtech 3" suspension lift on with 2" coil spacers and shackles to get the 5 more inches. With all this I should clear 33's!!
Question though... during the install (Perf.Acc body lift) I used the lower radiator hose extender that came with the kit but the hose still looks VERY close to the fan. I know some of you mentioned a universal flex hose but even with that it looks close. Is this normal? Or will adding a longer universal hose help a little?
Right now the lower fan shroud is off, I still need to trim it more so I figured I would just leave if off. What did you guys do to solve the whole radiator setup? Other than that, the lift wasn't that bad to put on but it did take the whole weekend (mine is a 5spd - I had to heat bend the linkage). ): But now its done and looks GREAT!

4x4, 4x2, 2x4 ... whatever. You're getting the LOOK you're after anyway! That's alllllll that matters!
So when do you figure to do the additional lifting? Any pics of your progress so far?
Congrats TallQuad!

Message: Right now I only have "before" pics which I will post this week. I don't have the "after" pics because my friend took his digital camera home just before I was finished (bastard). But as soon as I ring his neck I will post the lifted pics as well. Sorry to make you wait... My truck is a Graphite QC so at least I'll add a different color to our "lifted" group! :-)
The cool thing about the lift (even though mine is 2wd) is that I have an even BIGGER smile now when I drive. I can't wait to add the suspension lift to get to your 4x heights. I should be doing the next lift two weekends from now (Halloween parties this weekend - no time). I have already decided on the new 33x12.5 BFG Mud KM's and either 15x10 Weld Sidewinders or the MUCH cheaper Eagle 589's. I can't wait to show pics of that when I'm done!! Right now (even w/body lift) it looks stock to me so it REALLLY needs the next 5 inches.
BTW - any ideas on the radiator hose??

Message: I got a universal one from NAPA. 21 inches long I think. Still close but more room than the factory one.

Message: i thought you couldn't put spacers on the 2wd after the lift (3in. suspenion), becuase of the rack and pinion??? i got a 1998 ext. cab 2wd dak with the 3in. body and i got 31/10.50R15 Super Swaper SSR's, so their more or less 32's. if your interested i'm getting with the company AIM (that made the cradle lift for the 2000-01 chevy), becuase i summited an idea of lowering the rack and pinion with a built in skid plate. that way the guys like you and me with 2wd daks can get more lift with a lift spindle. if your interested email me at tx_smith_jd@yahoo.com. thank you and have a good day.

Message: I have a friend who put 2" Daystar spacers on the coils and it seems to work fine. He's had it on about a year now on his 2wd 2001 dak AND he beats it up at the dunes too, so it must be working. I hope this works on mine or else I'm gonna need a new plan! :-/
AIM is in Phoenix, right? If my plan doesn't work then I guess your idea josh would be a good one. I would LOVE to get spindles for my QC... And YES, Knobbyman, I'm VEERRRRY glad I got the Graphite (almost got silver). But your right, yours is a 4x4 and thats what I wanted too. Don't be sad about the lift... mine is at your height with a 3" body! So right now we are even (for now)!! ;-)
I post my current pics later tonight.

Message: i talked to the guys fab-tec and the said if you do their 3in lift and throw a spacer in it would knock the rack and pinion out of wack (in other words it would be at to steep of an angle for the rack and pinion to handle). AIM offers two or three different lift kits such as the standard lift just like the fab-tech kit(but cheaper) or an long travel kit which replaces the upper and lower control arms. it also pushs the wheels out, just an offset rim. everyone talks about fab-tech, but if you do the math and advantages AIM is really the way to go. well that's just opinion anyways, but ya have a nice day though.

Message: In regards to running a 2" spring spacer along with a 3" Fabtech lift... it cannot be done without terrible results. The problem with most 2wd A-ARM lifts is design. By lifting the truck with a new taller (3") coilspring and upper arm you do two things that are not good... First you decrease the amount of droop in the suspension, this leads to a poor off-road ride. Second is alignment, these 2wd lifts are right at the edge of UNALIGNABLE with a 3" spring. I own a 2000 2wd lifted Dakota with 3" springs and CST upper control arms. There is no way with either CST, Fabtech, or heaven forbid, AIM, that you could run a 3" spring lift with a 2" spacer. Not gonna work. Don't try it. If someone says "you can do it" tell them they are misinformed. If you are just lifting it for the look go ahead and knock yourself silly stacking springs and spacers - the ride will suck and your Dakota will NOT align - that's just fact. Wait for a spindle lift, and a good one at that. I hate to sound negative... but I work in the industry and would be more than happy to reveal the ins and outs of 2wd lifts, Dakotas included.

Message: Jeff - thanks for the heads-up! I havn't put the lift on, yet, so I like hearing different opinions on the subject. You are right about all you said, I'm still trying to figure out a good solution to the alignment problems and gaining more droop. This will not be just a show truck, I want action, too! So there are a lot of things I'm looking at just to get this baby to fit 33's. The obvious way to do this right is lift spindles, but we know that isn't happening soon (unless AIM or Fabtech starts doing it). I have a guy here in Phoenix who might make a couple sets of spindles and try those out, although this takes lots of R&D.
In any case, thanks for the info. I am still putting on the Fabtech lift but might hold off on the spacers til I figure out a better solution. Or maybe I will try the spacers first then take them off if they really mess things up. Trial and error, right!?
As for pics, I'm still getting those in... sorry. Soon!!!
