Whats up with these numbers if i look under the front of my truck and look at the diff it says C205... and my Dodge Dealer printed out a page from the factory showing everything my truck has and it has listed Chrysler 205MM not an 8in. I want to know what is up with anyone elses truck what does it say. I called Randy's ring & pinion and they said it is a 8In but just some help me.
By the way mine is a 2001 but built in late 2000

Im just trying to figure out exactially what we have under the front. I called Randy's ring & pinion and they called it a 8 inch so i really dont care what they call it i just hope they start to design some new gears for this front diff these 3.55 are killing me i need at least 4.10 preffer 4.56. Also anyone know whats under the new ram i heard the 1500 has the same front diff. And the ram always gets new toys faster than us.

JPekar,

8 inches = 205mm. Same front end. I ordered the 3.92's from Randy's Ring & Pinion last week and just had them installed today. Good swap! I just made a laundry list of comments on a post on the off-road forum. Take a look at those and if you have questions, feel free to ask.

JPekar, do you have any pics of your truck with the lift and tires?

If so post them or email them to me.

I dont have any new pics yet waiting to get the digital camera Working on my computer. However i will post when on should be about a week or so.
And I know I can get the 3.92 but that seems like a waste to me because you can get those direct from Chrysler. I want something for more power. I do a lot of towing and adventually want to go up to 35" tires so a 4.56 ratio is really what im looking for. Anyway anyone know whats under the new 1500 ram???

i have an 02 4wd with the C205 mm front axle. I have been looking for a locker for this axle but nobody makes one. I heard that the 2003 1500 has the same front axle and that a locker for that axle would work in the dakota. makes sense, but does anyone have a 2003 (or newer) 1500 with a C205 mm front axle ?, or know if the 2003 1500's use this axle ? thanks.

Off Topic I know, but why did Dan Gruber swap in 3.92's? I got em in my v6 and I hate the bastards. I gotta get 4.56's soon. I was looking up parts on drivetrainsuperstores.com and it has the dakota front axle listed as a dana 35 ifs. Mine's a 98, maybe yours are newer?

I'll check that drivetrain website and see what it says about the front axle for the 02. why the hell they put in a metric size (205mm) is beyond me. 205mm is something like 8.07 inches, which doesnt equal sh-t when you are talking about tolerances measured in thousandths of an inch.

I sure would like to lock the front and have that fourth wheel digging- all our trails on Guam are clay, which is great if its dry but like trying to ice skate if its wet. a little wet is good, keeps the dust down and can still grip, but really wet is damn near impossible- you have to steer by dropping into the ruts and just let it go. even the jeeps with tractor tires slip-slide all over the place.

I just had the 4:10's installed and its the best mod I have done!!! Check out 4wheel parts for the gears. I had to wait a few weeks for the gears to come in, but it was worth it
