Message: I know the interest in bigger tires.
I have a 2002 q-cab, 2" torsion, 3" body, I had 33"'s, then I put 35"'s.
All was well....for awhile.
looked great, went wheeling a few times.
Then one day in a ditch with big rocks....I broke the front diff housing in half....A sad thing. I can now see the ring and pinion clearly.
What I am trying to tell ya is that the stock front drive train can't handle bigger than 33" tires. The unit is just too small and weak..
I am now in the process of a dana 60's front and back. I think this will be alot stronger and I will be able to go pretty much where I want.
It is alot to change, but we all pay when we play one way or another. I hope to get it all done for 12 to 14 big ones. That's thousands.
The people on this site told me that it was gonna break if I went to 35's, Oh well...live and learn.
any question ? mjkblade@yahoo.com

Message: I finally started to get the parts for my straight axle conversion on my 02 q cab dak.
I bought a dana 44 heavy duty front, a 60 for the back. I took them to jaws gear here in sacramento.; The gears will be 513's, a detroit locker in the back. The front and back axles cost 1400 or so, the gears and locker and install is alittle over 2000. I also took delivery of 16x10 black rock crawlers with truxus 38.5x14.5 tires. I still have to get the high steer and shocks and drive lines. That is most of it except the small stuff that will come up as we go.
I expect to have this done for $ 8000 or so. I looked in to having this done, but it would have been at least $4000-5000 more. I will be putting up the pics when it is complete, just so the doubting people can see it is happening.
If you want to go big with a dak, theres gonna be problems.
The stock crap will not hold up.....no two ways about it.
any qyuestions.....mjkblade@yahoo.com
