Subject: 2001 Dakota 3" Lift Kit IP: Logged
Message: I want to lift my 2wd Quadcab and put some larger tires on it. I came across this kit and see it says I can't use stock wheels.
Is this an instance where I will need the wheel spacers I see so many posts mention?
I assume the rims hit the newer suspension components but the spacer pushes the rim out away from those suspension components right?

Message: yeah you can run wheel spacers but i wouldn't recommend it your better off getting aftermarket wheels with a larger offset to clear the upper control arm and especially if you plan to do some offroading and to save your wheel bearings.

Message: Izzy,
You can do either or...and both will have the same effect on wearing front end components (wheel bearings, control arm bushings, upper/ lower ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.) as both will increase the width of your rig.
Spacers 'may' save you some change on wheels, but you need to determine how wide-a-tire you plan to run before laying out the scratch for something you may end up replacing anyway. I'm guessing your stockers are a 6" wide wheel? With that you can probably go to something up in the 8" to 10" wide tread area. Running a 12" wide tire you should look at at least a 8" wide rim. That's when the spacers would come off and go up for sale...used. Don't get me wrong, you CAN run wider tires on the stock rims, they just don't fully spread out and lay as flat. This 'may' effect tread wear (center wearing quicker). Since the narrow-er wheel is pulling the sidewall in a bit, they aslo don't stand quite as tall as with the correct size rim. I experienced this (It didn't stop me) with a `70 Duster 340 when I wanted wider rear tires on my factory (6" wide) rallye wheels.
Note: If you decide to air down (think getting stuck in the sand), you may not have as good of a bead on the narrow-er wheels as with the proper width rim. Again, not to discourage you, but just to be aware. Good luck!

Message: Thanks for the replies guys. I found a 3" suspension kit over at www.canuckmotorsports.com and their tech support claims that I can use my stock 17" rims without any kind of spacing needed. Is anyone familiar with this company or its products?
Coil, upper ctrl arm & ball joint, shackle (adj), shock
P/N - 2609.84302
Price - $593.95

Depending on the quality of the ball joints, I already have a set of New MOOG ball joints that I can use instead of what they supply.
