Message: Hey guys, this is probably a lame question but any advice, experiences, or guidance is appreciated.
I have a 99 Dakota Sport 3.9L 4x4 5 sp. The clutch has always been stiff but it seems sitffer now than before - it's quite a chore to drive in rush hour.
I'm told I need a new clutch - average cost is $800 around here it sounds like.
So I'm curious as to whether or not you guys think a new clutch will fix this, or if that will just change where the pedal disengages/engages the clutch and it will still be stiff.
I'm also curious as to whether or not I can figure out if I need a new master cylinder and flywheel, as that might add another $300-$500 onto that $800.

Message: Sorry, forgot to mention it has a 3 inch Rancho lift on it - does this affect the clutch at all? Meaning, will a regular shop be ok to replace it or am I better off findind a specialty shop of some sort?

Message: Best bet is your clutch is going or about to go. Ive replaced my clutch on my 97 dakota 4x4 with the same lift as you, nothing to do with the lift. You might want to replace it/ get it replaced before your stuck on the road going 5 mph at 3500 rpm in first gear. Mine burnt out when i was driving up a local mountain to go snowboarding, i could feel it slipping and smell it burning, it took me 3 hours to get home when it should have taken about an hour. Hope this helps

Message: Spent quite a bit of cash on replacing the clutch (About $800) - it was GREAT for about 3 days and now is just as stiff as ever!!! ANYONE have any ideas on what I can do to get the clutch a little more manageable without spending another thousand on it? I can't believe it got stiff again so fast - under 200 miles into the new clutch I'd say.
