Subject: leaf spring lift IP: Logged
Message: hi my name is craig I just have a quick question about my 94 V6 4x4 dakota, i was wondering if anyone has removed the rear leaf spring bracket and mounted the leaf spring directly into the leaf spring mount and if its safe to do?

I must admit you are thinking outside the box. reason's why you can't:
1. unless the distance from (spring)eyelet to eyelet is exactly the same as mount to mount, you wouldn't get the bolts in.
2. Even if the distance was the same, the rear mount is not as wide as the spring. Notice the width difference between the top and bottom of the shackle.
3. Even if the stars aligned and everything fit, you would greatly reduce the amount of 'droop' in your rear suspension. When the suspension droops, that shackle travels forward and the top drops to give you more downward travel. This would be noticable in ride quality and offroad capability. This movement is also important in maintaining traction.
Finally realize that a 4" drop at the rear of the spring would equate to a 2" lift overall. This is because the axle resides in the center of the leaf pack.
