Subject: 1996 dakota on 35s? IP: Logged
Message: 1996 dodge dakota slt 4x4, 318 5.2
ok so heres the scoop of my plans. im wanting to fit 35s under my truck. my ideas are to get the outrageously priced trial master 4 inch lift, hopfully with little effort do a 3-4 inch custom body lift with good old hockey pucks. an extra 2.5 inchs lift blocks in the back to level out the 1 inchs different of the suspension in the front and from cracking the t bars. so i am hoping that i can get the 8-9 inchs of lift but for some reason i think its much easier in my mind then in the shop.. and if i can not clear for the 35s im triming the fenders. what does every one think cause im sure some one else has had these ideas and what were your problems

Message: arent body lifts cheap enough you should need to use hockey pucks?

Message: ive been thinking of the sas but its to much searching around for good, old parts and its to much down time for my truck its still my main transpotation. ive found plenty of people who have done the swap and the trucks look amazing it would be the best route... which is why i have not started any thing yet. the SAS might still be an option.

Message: Your clearance issue will be at the rear of the front fender, specifically the firewall area. That is where the tires will rub when offroad. On the pavement you might be okay. Unfortunately this is not an area you can simply cut away. You may be able to beat it into submission with a BFH, but even that is questionable. Most who have done the SAS have relocated the axle forward from the original position by an inch or two. This tends to correct the cab rub.
I did the 2" BL / Tarilmaster susp. combo, then installed Glassworks fenders to get 33x10.5s to clear in almost all conditions.
None of it's cheap.
Good luck
