Subject: Anyone tried this???? IP: Logged
Message: Has anyone thought of taking out the rack and pinion in the 2000 dakota and replacing it with the gear box etc from a 99 dakota to adapt a tuff country 5.5" lift? If anyone has did everything bolt up?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts on this

I'd put my money on - no.

Message: Ok the frame is the same 97-04. My question inheretly lies in
what is the primary difference between 99 and 2000 Dakotas.
Doing my reasearc. I see rack and pinion was an upgrade
from convential steering and looking through computer
searching parts the upper and lower control arms look slightly
different. Does anyone know why this can't be done. Is the
front differential different. In the computers parts explosion
looks the same but I know there are differences. I'm looking
for help trying to find them out. $$$ isn't the problem at this
point I want to know can this be done. I'm married to this
f**cking truck and I want it alittle higher. I'm not doing a SAS I
drive this truck no intentions of rock crawling.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Message: dude why dont you do what i did, its much more simple, go to ebay buy 3 inch rear blocks and torson bar keys (aka 3in leveling kit) and then get a 3inch body lift. its way cheaper than that 1300 dollar lift kit and you can do both in your back yard, i did mine in the gravel behind my house. i got a 98 dakota sport rumble bee 4x4 and it looks bad ass with 6 total inches of lift and 33's it is taller than full sized trucks

Message: Adam, you have any pics of your truck you could post? I am wondering if the setup you are using would accept 34" 9.50 TSL's I really want a kift kit on my 00 Quadcab but, $13 to $15 huundred bucks is a lot of money for a friggin lift kit!
