Message: Thanx for clearing that up. Kinda thought alot more people would have complained about it if it was a valid lift related problem. Good to put some 'squelch' into that thread though ;-)
However it does bring more into perspective about this. Front brakes are a known weakness on our trucks so when upgrading to bigger rubber I guess it's a no-brainer to also redo the front brakes (powerslots and applicatible pads)because if the rotors warp with the stock rubber you know darn right well they're gonna heat up big time with the bigger rubber. Sorry if this is redundant and not really thread related, just want to do this the right way and have a safe truck.

Message: You'd may want to go with the reciever hitch because of the height difference if you lift the bumper with the body.
Or you could leave the rear bumper in the stock location and get a rear bumper gap guard to cover the gap between the bumper and the lifted body using the tow ball on the bumper, your choice.

Message: As BlackDak said, the bumper is going to be a bit higher. Bigger problem is that if its a 2000 + Dak, the relocation brackets are not rated for towing. Options are, again as BlackDak said, leave the bumper in the stock location, or get a receiver hitch. Personaly, I would say get the receiver hitch. They arent that much and are much stronger than the bumper and offer more options for towing than the bumper.

Message: Directions in lift kit specifically say bumper is no longer to be used for towing. Besides...if you go to a receiver, you have a point to tow/pull from.

Message: Back on the issue of showing too much frame...
Picked up the 2002 Road & Track Truck/SUV/Van Buyer's Guide yesterday. Couldn't help but notice that the pics of the Chevy Silverado (both regular and HD), Chevy S-10 4X4, and the GMC Sonoma 4X4 (all at factory height) show about the same amount of frame as a 3 inch body-lifted Dakota. Not knocking the Chevys, but I just don't see the argument that too much frame shows on a body-lifted Dakota. The only thing on the Dakota that noticeably hangs down is a crossmember bracket a few inches behind the front tires on the frame rails.

Message: Since Dan wont do it,[:-)] I will. Chevy's stink! They show as much frame stock as Daks do with a body lift.
The brackets for the bumper are a bit stronger than the directions lead you to beleive. There is a certain amount of CYA there for the manufacturer. I wouldnt pull anything very heavy with it though. The receiver is the best way.

i think with the wiring, fan shroud, trans lines(if an auto)front and rear bumpers, and esecially the gas filler tub will not allow a 4" body lift go with the 3" by performance accessory

Message: Bernd could probably answer this since he used to have a pushbar on his 2WD with a body lift... I want to put a westin pushbar (not a bull bar like Durtydog and blackdak02 have) on my truck. Does anyone know what the pushbar mounts to? I'm hoping it uses the same bolt holes as the bumper but am not sure. But what I want to really make sure is that it will mount correctly when i get the 3" body lift.
Thanks

Message: Different brands of grill guards mount differently. THe one I had mounted to the frame on the bottom, and to the bumper mounts on top. Some new lower brackets could have possibly been mad to make it work with the body lift, but where it mounts to the bumper mounts would have been very weak at best. Most grill guards are not that easily adapted to work with body lift. Especially if you are wanting them to retain any kind of strength.

Message: Time to bring this back to the top.
Look people, Body lift are NOT hard to do. There are NO SUSPENSION LIFTS AVAILABLE for 2000 and newer daks. Unless you count Truckin and Whiplash, and since they dont work for the most part, I dont. Daks are rumored to get entirely redone for 2004, so that just about GUARANTEES that none will be made. So its either a body lift or no lift. There is no choice. Its not a matter of want, affordability, like, dislike, or anything else. Its AVAILABILITY! When you do a body lift, NOTHING DROPS on the truck. I have seen numerous post from people who supposedly have done lots of lifts, and made the comment that with a body lift, your hitch will be 3 inches lower than it is now. Excuse me? THE HITCH DOESNT MOVE! It wont be any lower than it is now. It sits still. I have had my truck off road in some pretty decent stuff, as well as few others. Nothing has broken and nothing has had a problem. No alignement problems, no steering problems, no pinion angle problems, NOTHING. Daks DO NOT show frame like other trucks. let me repeat myself. Daks DO NOT show the frame like other trucks. Will you see more than without the lift? Yes, of course. Will it look like the same abborition as an S-10? NO. It will look like most trucks do stock. If you are concerned with the SMALL amount of space under the bed, lift lips are a fairly cheap fix.
If you dont like bodylifts personally, FINE. But dont go around telling someone they are crap. If might be just what that person wants or needs. Give your opinion, but lets keep the facts straight.

Message: How would a 1" or 2" BL look? I want to keep the stock rims and tires, but would like a more agressive look. I'm particularly interested in having the front of my truck be the same height as the rear. When I bought my '03 4x4, the rear sat way up high and the front sat very low. Most people asked "is that really a 4x4?". I had Dodge reset the ride height and it's better now. Anyone have experience with the smaller BL's?

Message: I used to have one of those on mine. From the way it mounts, you would have to weld custom brackets for it to work on a body lift. I thought about keeping mine and trying to do that when I get my lift, but decided to sell it and save some hassle. You could probably take it to a shop that does welding and they could probably come up with something for you fairly cheap.
