Message: After i cranked my torsion bars up,(and they are not maxed out) i noticed they have a bow in them, they look stressed.i should take a picture of them, they dont look right,i would imagine at some point in time they might break, they have been cranked for about two years now.I didnt see any new torsion bars online or any heavier ones and i know if i did enough research on this site i could find the guy that swapped his for durango bars, but i figured i would see if anyone had the quick answer first or if anything new was out, maybe Kowalski can let me know if his bars are bowed as well or straight as an arrow, any new options out there ??????

Message: Mine still look pretty straight after being cranked 7 years, still caries the plow as well as when first done. Haven't heard of anything new out, but haven't been looking either. How bad is the bow ? I didn't put a straightedge on them.

Message: I think they all have a bit of bow to them, just with the suspension lift they are more exposed, hence the bow is more noticable. I see it on mine with the lift as well, and my control arm bumpstops (upper and lower) are pretty much evenly spaced right now.
Feel any better? :)
Hey, do you have some kind of link connecting the forward control arm drop down brackets?

Message: Well before i got the lift done i didnt notice it, but after the lift, Bills right the bars are more exposed and to me it looks like alot of bow,if i can remember i will take a picture of it when i get home today. But who knows maybe im just paranoid, and yeah Bill the guy that installed the lift used a custom made piece of steel tubing to connect the drop down brackets he said by joining them together itll make em a bit stronger.

Message: Depending on how it is attached, he is correct. I would be interested to see more photos of that. By the way, not busting on you...quite the opposite. Your rig reminds me of something used to hunt'sandworms' (think Michael Gross, 1996 movie, 'Tremors II').
After all, it's a Dodge. So I know it's up to the task...nice. :)

Message: Well Bill i took some pictures yesterday and posted them on page 5 on my cardomain, most are of my torsion bars that look warped to me but i do have one on the front brace you are talking about and i will try this weekend to get a better shot of how its mounted, but i would like you and Kowalski to look at the pics of the torsion bar and tell me if that looks normal,if it does then im not going to worry about it.

Message: It looks more bent than mine, but mine's a heavier truck with heavier bars. I wouldn't be surprised if mine looked that that when carrying the plow; I'll have to check that out sometime. How's it riding, the same as usual ? If it is, I don't think I'd worry about it; unless someone more knowledgable advises otherwise. From what I've heard, a knick like a tool mark can make one fail, but I've never seen one give up. I've had lots of torsion bar mopars from 60's and 70's, and the only time I've seen one fail was when the rear bracket in a '68 B'cuda got torn off the frame. But that was the bracket that gave up, torsion bar was still strong enough to separate it from the frame. Drove it on the bump stops for a while longer before finally scrapping the poor old girl; so even if one gives up on you, you might still be able to drive home. Cool pics, I'll have to check out more of your site when I have a chance.

Message: Yeah the rides the same as usual,i just happened to remember that they bowed when i was under there taking my leafsprings off so i figured i would see how the rest you guys torsion bars looked, but now i am starting to think that its fairly normal and as long as if it does break i can still drive the truck home then im ok with that.maybe a couple more guys will check it out, look at theirs and see the same thing. thanks.."K".

Message: You know what Calikota, when people look at my car domain pics and sign my guestbook, the most asked question of all is.....where did you get the gauge pod !!! no one to this date has noticed that i moved the entire front end of my truck out an inch and a half to two inches in order to fit in a larger electric fan, which is good because it means that for the most part it looks normal,or the fact that i had to re-route my steering column to go around the shorty headers, but noooo where did you get the gauge pod??? so thanks for noticing something different Cali.... I appreciate it. P.S where in so-cal are you?

Message: Yeah Cali,Prospecting is cool, you go out in the middle of nowhere, find a place that the ol miners worked or locate a spot thru research and set up camp there for a few days and just work the creek beds or cruise around on the quad exploring mining camps,at night its steak on the barby and as many beers as you can handle, and even a few more after that...a blazing campfire and some crankin jams on the stereo !!!! Holy S%&* just typin that up makes me want to get out there again, anyway Im down here in San Diego.

Message: have you found anything cool on your prospecting trips?
I was recently having a conversation with some friends about the price of gold and old gold mines and possible locations in GA to go pan for gold. I don't know anything about panning for gold, but based on some descriptions from my friends that are into it, I have a few spots I know from my fishing adventures to try

Message: Most of the cool stuff out there is from what the ol miners left behind, if you have an opportunity to try some gold prospecting i highly recommend it,but just remember that gold is around a thousand dollars an ounce for a reason, because its hard to find,so dont get your hopes up,if it was that easy to find it would be worthless,i think next year i am going to put out a prospecting dvd for beginners, i will film it in the Randsburg area, very cool spot for 4x4 and prospecting,if you want to get some tips before you go prospecting go to www.nuggetshooter.com or try www.arizonaoutback.com .....both have forums and lots of info.....and remember "Gold is where you find it"
