I just bought a 2001 4.7 v8 quad cab slt 4x4. I'm planning on buying some 33x10.50r15 bfg mud terrains. Just wondering if I can fit these on the truck by maxing out the torsion bars and putting blocks in the back with a set of 15x8 american racing wheels of my old 94 dakota. Any help would be appreciated.

Depending on what offset the wheels are and how comfortable you are taking the Sawzall to your front bumper yes they will probably fit. Your truck will ride like crap with the bars maxed out, and it will put your CV joints in a very tight bind. You will need to have a soft foot with the 4.7 under the hood, expecially with the tires turned to keep the CV axles from breaking off road, and even still they will wear out a lot faster then they should. The tires would probably fit better on the stock wheels rather then aftermarket ones as the stock wheels have more backspacing, a lower backspacing wheel will make the tire VERY close to the rear of the fenderwell. You really need a 3in lift (body or suspension) to fit 33s properly.

the 15x8 wheels from my other truck are the correct OE backspacing for my 94. the stock wheels from the 01 are 16 inch so I can't use them. mainly I'm wondering if the backspacing is the same from a 94 wheel to an 01 wheel?? thanks for the help.

Since you have both wheels, you should be able to measure to compare the backspacing. Have you checked to see if the 15" wheels will clear the front brake calipers ?

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Good point didn't even think of the brakes I think the brakes on the newer 3rd gen Daks are at least an inch bigger then the 2nd gen ones the 15in wheels might not even fit regardless of backspacing. Also another thing that might keep you from running 15in wheels is the rack and pinion steering, the 4x4s that have that type steering have different knuckles then the older linkage steering Daks. I know that 15s will fit on 2wds up to 03, my 02 2wd had 15in stock wheels not sure if they will fit on the 4x4s newer then 00 because of the brakes and steering.

thanks for the help guys. I bolted the wheels on today and they fit just fine. The 31x10.50r15 courser mts I had fit just fine but I really would like to squeeze some 33x10.50r15s under there. I know that 33x12.50s won't fit without a lift but I'm hoping the 10.50's will. Cranked the bars a little and leveled out. Any idea if the 33's but 2 inches narrower will fit without a lift? thanks.

Not really, I have had a set of 34x10.50 swampers on my truck and they fit just as good as the 33x12.50s that are supposed to be on there. My truck has the 3in Rancho lift though. There are only 3 other lifted Daks in my area that I'm aware of, I don't know either of the people well enough to swap tires to try stuff. One has 33x12.50s, one has 32x11.50s and there is a 2nd gen with the 4in trailmaster kit and 33x13.50 swampers. I want to try those for the weekend I could go through all kinds of stuff with wider swampers!:)
