Subject: Splash Guard/Skid Plate... IP: Logged
Message: Every time i hit puddles enough to have any fun at all, seems most of the water gets deflected up into my engine, completely dousing my cold air intake, distributor cap, and spark plugs. one time i got the flashing check engine light, checked it out, found i had a number 4 cylinder misfire.
question is, what do i do about it? i thought about welding a plate right over that gap on the front of the frame where i USED to have a plastic splash plate, but i was told that was a bad idea. anyone know what the hell i can do about this? cant seem to find a splash guard anywhere....

An easy and cheap way to stop the miss problem, after splashing through water, is to change the spark plugs and wires and load both ends of the wires with dielectric grease before you reinstall them onto the plugs and Dist cap. I had the same prob when I first got my 99 Dak 318 4x4, only the hole I went through actually splashed enough water up to make my truck stall. After about 10min of drying time it fired back up and away I went, the next weekend after I did that to my wires and it rained making that hole even deeper, I went back through it faster then the first time and it didn't even miss.

Message: Try local wrecking yards. Having that splash shield in place is good for your engine and the rotating parts. Any year 97 thru 2004 should fit.
