Subject: rancho 3" lift kit IP: Logged
Message: I'd really like to install the rancho 3" lift kit for my 02 dakota quad cab. The kit costs around $1500 and i've called a few shops and they want to charge around $1000 to install it.
for those of you that have installed it yourself, how hard was it? Is this something 1 person can do? 2 people? how clear and easy to follow were the instructions? How long did it take? Did you need any special tools?
Other than shocks, I've never done any suspension work.

Message: Do you have an auto or Man. trans? They don't make one for the Man. And hey, the 3" PA body lift kit for $200 (My only choice) and a weekend, doesn't do a bad job.

Message: Ground clearance is determined by the lowest point of the vehicle, which is the bottom of the differential. You can lift it 20 feet, and your ground clearance will still be a few inches.
For better ground clearance, you need taller tires.

Message: I put one on my 2002 QC. It wasn't that hard, but Ive always done my own work. Yes one person can do it, the front axle drop was a little tricky. The instructions are well written and easy to follow. You can get them on-line at Rancho. It took me about 16-18 hours on and off 2 evenings and a saturday, but I wasn't in a hurry. You will need a some tools other than your basic hand tools. It tells you in the instructions.
Good Luck CC
