Subject: Another Torsion Bar Issue IP: Logged
Message: Last weekend I cranked my torison bars with the intent on raising my Dak ~1". 4 turns right? After two turns on the drivers side, it raised 1/8". So i tried the passenger side. 2 turns raised that side 1/2", as expected. I went back to the drivers side and cranked until I raised it to match, which took a total of 6 turns (the 2 original plus 4 more). I am going to climb back under it and take a look at the torsion key clearances tonight.
What could be wrong? I jounced the suspension by driving it between turns and gave it a week of regular driving to let it settle. Do I have a lazy t-bar?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Message: The number of turns depends on how strong the bars are. Weak bars will need more turns.
What makes bars weak? bad manufacturing process, "bottoming out" the suspension may overtwist the bars, or further weaken an already marginal-spec bar.
New bars aren't cheap, but if you're thinking about new ones, consider that there's a guy on this board that put 2000 Durango bars in his 2004 Dakota because they were a little stronger.
After a bit of searching, I found this thread:
