Message: yea if u get a PA lift the extension should come with the kit. 33 will fit but u should have to do some trimming around the front wheel wells for clearance

Message: In case you havent noticed im not the smartest when it come to trucks so please bare with me. I was looking around at performance accessories lift kits to see if they include the shift extension but all i could find that was included in the kit was a steering extension. Is that the right thing or do i need to keep looking for the shift extension specifically?

Message: Is trimming the wheel wells worth it to put 33in. tires on it or is it to much hassle and i should just go with 32 in. tires?

Message: I would say go for the 32s, 33s is stretching it for a 2wd even with a 3in lift. it takes a 3in lift to fit 33s properly on a 4x4, however you can fit 32s on a stock 4x4 no problem. When you put a 3in lift on a 2wd Dak it puts them at about the same height as a stock 4x4, so you should be able to fit the same size tire on a 3in lifted 2wd as a stock 4x4.
As for the shifter extension I think the lift does come with it but you have to get it welded into place which requires you to remove the shifter. If you don't put the extension in you will still be able to shift fine the shifter will just be 3in shorter.

Message: Whats going to kill your bank account is the new gears you will need to get your power back up to normal, unless you dont do any freeway driving.I went from 30 to 32s and going down the freeway i had to stay in 4th gear,i have a 5 speed manual V-8 so i swapped to 3.90 gears to get me back to normal but its a 4x4 so i had to re-gear both axles,a friend helped out so it didnt cost an arm and a leg.Something to consider, who knows maybe you have higher gears to start with.

Message: Bucket has a good point that most people overlook or consider not necessary, that is untill they find out they have lost 4mpg and its rediculously slower then it was. accuautoparts.com is a good place to get gears they have everything you will need to do it even the special tools needed.

Message: Alot of ring and pinion web sites have a chart you punch in what gears you have and the current tire size and then what tire size you are going to and it will tell you what rpms you will move up to with certain gearing.most of us Dakota drivers go to 3.90 or 4.10 ,i always thought i had 3.55 gears till i took it apart and counted the ring and pinion teeth and found out i had 3.21 so i went with 3.90 to try and keep my freeway rpms at around 2200 in 5th gear, because when i use this truck about 3 times a year its mostly freeway driving, the gear choice i went with was perfect, now it runs just like it did before the larger tires. And like Kota Kid said accuautoparts.com is a good place for gears, but the chart is on jawsgears or randysringand pinion or something like that.Hopefully this will get you on the right track.

Message: Well since you havent done anything to your truck yet, i would suggest you check your rpms at lets say 70 mph, then when you use the gear chart you can look at lets say 3.90 gears with 33 tires and see if the rpms are similar at 70 miles per hour,if not check 4.10 i am pretty sure you can use one of those two sizes. But concentrate on the rpms.... thats whats going to get you back to normal when you size up on tires.

Message: I found a chart that uses 65 mph as a guide with 3.91 gears at 65 with 33s in 4th gear your at 2588,if you have a 5th gear like mine you drop another say 15 to 30 %.if you go 4.11 you run 2720 rpms, in 5th drop 15-30% rpms will also go up as speed increases, keep in mind all numbers could be off a little, my tires measure out at 33 although they are sold as 32 and my rpms are right where i want them at between 70 and 80 mph.
