Subject: Potential Body Lift Damage? IP: Logged
Message: Truck: 1999 4x4 3.9L
As most of you probably know, dakotas dont have the best transmissions. My truck just turned over 100K and still has the original tranny. Ya, sometimes it does the usual "clunk" in reverse and hangs up in drive every once in a while.
In addition to a lift, bigger will be needed. I know that obviously getting bigger tires will add more strain to the tranny, but how much are we talking about?
What are the potential damages that can happen if I put a 3 in body lift on my truck?
Thanks in advance!

'Clunk' in reverse is mostly noise resonating from that large, hollow drive shaft. It doesn't sound good, but it is just that, 'noise'...nothing to really worry about. The weak link, being U-joints, can (should) be replaced around 100K just as preventative maintenance.
Hanging up in drive? Don't know that one.
My V-8 '95 has the original tranny as well. besides a filter and fluid change at 65K, it hasn't been touched. 116K today.
Good luck
