Subject: suspension or body lift?
IP: Logged

Message:
i want to lift my 91. i want about a 4" lift, which i have seen in a suspension lift. i have also seen 2" body lifts, but 2" is a little smaller then i want. i dont know much about the pros/cons of each. all i know is the suspension lift is about 1500$ while a body lift is much cheaper. anyone have any advice?

depends on what you want to be able to do. suspension lift will give you more ground clearance for the most part but is definitly more expensive. a body lift is good when trying to fit bigger tires and such and is good for when you just want the "bigger truck" look. it all depends on what you want to accomplish.

Assuming you were talking about the Trailmaster 4" suspension lift (DD43) Just an FYI.. That $1500 is just the cost of the the kit. You'll still need to replace your rims (if you are running the stock ones or anything with more than 3 1/2" backspace) and on a 16 year old truck you can almost count on finding a few parts that will need to be replaced once you get your truck apart (ball joints, tie rods, idler arm, etc...). By the time your done, you'll have over $2k into the project and that's a lot for only 4". If I had it to do again, I would have gone a completely different route.

My usual advise is to take the cost of the kit, add 50% and that's the very minimum you should be prepared to spend before you open your tool box. If your paying someone else to install the lift for you, double it.

If you don't want to spend that kind of money, then the body lift is your best bet.
