 Subject: 31 inch tires/gear ratio

I was wondering how much 31 inch tires would affect my gear ratio, would it have any affect on power. I have a 3.55 LS on a 2001 dakota reg cab 4x4.

You'll be fine.. alot of people are running 33's on 3.55 LSD w/ the 4.7 .... I'm guessing you have a 4.7 you kind of didn't state that.
Eitherway 3.9 or 4.7 would run 31's fine.

Knobby's right. You'll be fine. I'm assuming you have the 235-something or other tires on 15 inch wheels...aka the base 4X4 wheels and tires? For 97-00, the factory optional tire for 4X4's were 31X10.5R15's. For 2001+, the optional size is the metric equivalent on a 16 inch wheel. So all you'd be doing is upgrading to the optional tire size.
If you are upgrading from the smaller tires, your speedo will be off a few mph. But since you're upgrading to a factory-offered size, your dealer can easily reprogram your computer. That will get your speedo reading correctly again.

As Dan stated, the dealer can flash your CAB (Controller Anti-Lock Brakes) to acknowledge your larger tires (as long as they are dealer/factory offered). Not only will this correct your speedo, but it will affect your ABS behavior.

ive been having trouble with my 4x4 on my 1992 dakota i hear it engage but my front tires wont move does anybody know what it can be? thanks
