ok so i got the 3inch accessories body lift, for a 97, extended cab 4X4.
now would it says in the directions to weld an extension for the 4x4 shifter. i was on some other forum and never heard anyone of doing this.. is this a must? or can i just make it so the shifter is just 3 inches shorter :D. im sure this has been asked before but members can only search?! blah

zer0....i just did a bl on my 02 qc, i have the electronic 4x4 so i didnt have to do that, your lifting the cab and your tranny stays in the same spot so in order to get your shifter to work correct you need to add the same amount that you lifted, shortening the shifter inside the cab wont do anything, your shifter linkage is mounted to the floor of the cab, so your extending from your shifter mount to the tranny.....did i explain that ok?

yeah i understand that, but what i meant was not putting the extender on the shifter at all.. so in turn my shifter would just be 3 inches shorter.. i dont have a welder nor have access to one, and if it stops me from shifting then thats ok, i will just leave it in 2H.. i was just wondering if its possible without using the extension, not like i will be using 4X4 anytime soon anyways.

Don't worry about cutting and welding the stock shifter just unscrew the shift knob and go to your local hardware store and get a piece of threaded rod that will screw into the shift knob and get a threaded sleave to connect the factory shifter and the threaded rod. Doing it this way you can put the shift knob where ever you want it personally i think the transfer case shifter is too close too the dash in my 99 4x4, so i am looking forward to body lifting my truck so i can lower the knob a little.

I just did this lift to my 2002 reg cab, 5 speed, I F$%ked up and cut my shifter, If anyway to do without cutting I would do, if I had to do over. I ordered new shifter. Other than that was a fairly easy thing to do.
