Message: Hey everybody!
I'm finally gettin around to fixin up my dakota and i got a few concerns that i couldn't find on the posts anywhere, so any help would be great.
1. What brand lockers are available for the 2002 datoka 4X4?
2. I went to a 4X4 shop and they told me it would cost $300 to install a body lift...does that sound right?
3. Is installing a body lift difficult? i am very versed in cars (worked at a shop for a year) but i never tackled something like this before.
4. Have you guys changed the gearing of your trucks, what are you guys running?
5. I have Nerf running boards...when you lift the body do the boards go up to...or do they just sit there 3 inches below the body? Does it look bad if so?
I do mostly dune stuff out here in Southern Cali, and i get out to rocks and mud every once in a while, so i'm just looking to get a good set-up with 33's and low bucks.
Thankx
2002 Dakota ExtCab 4X4 SXT 3.9L w/ 3.55's
All i got so far is front end up 2" from torsion bars and the money to do more stuff.
It's true, speed does only break things faster.

Message: I can't answer all your questions, but I'll do the ones I can.
2&3: I could see $300 for a body lift install...depending on labor rates that would probably be 5-6 hours which is believable for a pro who does lifts for a living. The lift itself is simple, but all the detail work is a pain, especially the fan shroud removal & re-installation. Hawkeye and I did mine in 8 hours start to finish with an hour for lunch and a run to the tire shop.
4. No gearing change yet, but planning on it. 2000 and newer 4X4's are limited to stock gear ratios (3.55 & 3.92) because nobody makes any tighter gears for the front end. Even with the 3.55's and 32 inch tires the truck is fine...just a little slower off the line.
The body lift is without a doubt the best mod I've done on the truck so far. It looks good and I highly recommend it.

Message: All the shops around here want 450-500 to do my 3" lift on an '01. I'd pay $300 if I could find someone to do it. What shop said they'd do it for that??? Thanks

Message: Hey bjlindsey, I'll help you out with that lift. It's really not the hard to install. Plus yours is an auto which is cake compared to my 5spd. Like I said in another post... I'll send you an email when I'm back in town. :-)

Message: It cost me $1000 to go from 31's to 33's. That included tires, body lift and gap guards. That $300 sounds like labor only. I did the body lift myself but I am a machanic and have all the air tools and was able to lift it 6' in the air which made it really easy.
I have not put my nurf bars back and I will bolt them to the frame when I fab some new brackets. I do not want a 3.5" gap.
My next mods are a locker with 4.10's and a Can-back.
Arthur what is your budget?
