The lift was around $200. It is a performance accessories body lift. It is very easy to install and all you need is metric and standard tools. Some deep sockets are required. You will also need a torx bit for the inner fender by the front bumper. If your truck is a stick shift, you will need a WELDER to extend the shifter. The only part I needed help with is the rear bumper(the wife put the bolts in while I held it up.)oh ya, you need a drill and a small drill bit to relocate the spare tire mount and some way to cut the lower fan schroud but that is only plastic and a hack saw would probably do the job. The lift was EASY and I think if you can change you own flat tire and you can read, you can install this lift. make sure you have a few 4x4 blocks of wood and a floor jack to lift the body.

Good Luck and I will check back later
John

That looks awesome.

Is that a 3" lift?

How are the 33's? Do you think 34's would work without rubbing?

Thanks.

Fuzzball,
I do not think you can get 34s under the truck with this lift. I put on a PA 3in body lift because this is my only option for a 2004. If your truck is not a 2003 or 2004 I would recommend going with a suspension lift. The body lift is only $200 while a suspension lift is around $2000 but if you want it for MUDDING, your clearance to the ground is greater with the suspension lift. I HAVE 305/70/16S ON MY TRUCK and they seem to be wider that my buddies 33/12.5/15 BFGs. The only rubbing I have is if I turn my Wheel all the way to lock, like for parking in tight spaces, but I do not park close to people any way! If you want your Dakota to be as big as a Ram1500 4x4 there is only one thing to do,,,,,,,,LIFT IT!!!!!

The Lift is easier than you think!
AND remember.....Lowriders cant get it up!

Good Luck
John

Jim,
If you are goin for the look, Get the body lift!. I have a question forya, when you added your Blocks in the rear, did you have to turn your tortion bars to level out your truck? When you Install the 3in body lift, to get the 305x70x16 tires you need to turn the tortion bars to bring the front end up a little and level your truck out. Same thing for you Fuzzball. Just do a search on this websight for tortion bar crank and this is very easy also! I would love to see more dakota pictures so everone join cardomain.com and post the pics,,,,,,,ITS FREE AND EASY>

Remember,,,,,LOWRIDERS CAN"T GET IT UP!!!!!!!!

What I am after is getting some lift without spending $2000 - $3000, and getting some bigger tires on it without cutting body panels (two years left on lease :).

2" bigger tires (33") will give me 1 inch of lift, and that 1" is suspension lift, cause tires are suspension devices.

this is the only mods I've done so far.

Fuzzball,
Killer Idea for tunes in the Quad cab! I may just have to go with the MTX Thunderforms. I have seen that it installs on the drivers side behind the rear seat. I hear that I may loose the fold up option but that is a small price to pay for tunes. I did not mean to exclude you in the last post. I have a question for both you and Jim.
When the both of you are talking about 33 inch tires I am guessing you have 15inch rims? I am not sure of a 16inch rim that comes with a 33in form of measure? That brings me to the next question, are your trucks 2 wheel drive? I know the 02 came with 15in rims but was not sure about the 04. If you have a 2 wheel drive truck I am not sure you can fit that big of a tire (305x70x16). To fit the tires under the front of my 4x4 I had to crank the tortion bars or the tires would rub. For anyone that wants to lift their Dakota without compromising the ride, Get the body lift. The only difference I found in my truck is that now my overdrive kicks in later, my speedometer is about 5mph slow at 55, and my RPMs are lower at freeway speeds which is saving gas I hope. Oh ya, Less miles are going on my truck he he he.

Good Luck Guys
John

My truck is a 4wd and I have the 16" wheels. I'm pretty sure I can get 33" tires for the 16" wheels. I'm not TOO concerned about it right now, although this lift is looking more tempting all the time. I was under the truck tonight, changing trans fluid and it's looking like it's pretty easy to do. I was thinking spring but maybe if I get funds earlier I might do it sooner.

Yeah, I have the 3.55 gear ratio, so I guess I don't want to go too big with the tires. :)

Thanks for the info.

to get a 33 inch tire for a 16 inch rim i think you have to use a 285/75/16 tire, mine are the next size smaller compares to a 32 i forgot the exact numbers on it, i have a qc 4x4 with the 2 inch block and cranked torsion bars.....truck may be for sale if anyone is interested

Hello Everyone!
I have a 1989 Dakota 4x4 3.9L V6. I am looking to lift the truck some without spending a ton of money. Any one have any suggestions on a kit that will accomplish what i'm looking to do that won't break the bank?

When you guys are talking about tires rubbing you have to take into account the width of the tire not just the height... many times your rubbing will be due to a wide tire rather then a taller tire... only thing is dont go too tall because if u take a turn and hit a bump you could damage your fenders... the wide tires tend to rub on the inner wheel well or sometimes even close to the frame... if you really wanted to stop a wide tire from rubbing (most likely rubbing towards the rear instead on the front) cut out the back part of your plastic in the wheel well... just a suggestion
